Something good that came from a week off work with covid 🤪🥴 It was slow going with brain fog, but a welcome break from endless screen time and naps 😅

A few days ago I did an urgent pattern job for the local Hospice. Nurse scrubs are hard to get hold of at the moment, so I made a basic pattern for them and they have volunteers sewing them up out of old sheets as we speak. If you are someone who works in the health care industry, or know of someone having a similar problem, feel free to email me [email protected] for a free copy, you can print it out at home.

Happy Easter everyone ❤️

Hello from my bubble 🙋‍♀️ I hope everyone is feeling well and managing to enjoy being tucked up at home with your families or housemates 24/7!! haha. I had all sorts of creative ideas of how I could spend the four weeks, but if you have young kids like we do, you've probably realised the "free time" has not been as abundant as first thought 🤪

With work quietening down for the moment while the designers and factories are off work, I put my pattern software to a different use. I designed this lockdown house for my kids to colour and then build into 3D. Just thought i'd share on here in case anyone wanted to try it? 😎

A Saturday evening in my workroom with craft beer and good tunes while hubby puts the kids to bed....so good!

Wow, just last month alone, I had the pleasure of working with 16 different NZ clothing brands! 😮

My workload in general has been steadily increasing this year with my existing clients, so I'm holding off taking on any new clients now until September. Apologies if you were planning to get in touch with me soon! Two of my biggest clients are doing so well in their businesses, that their ranges have doubled or even tripled what they've been previous years. I'm proud to be part of their journey and I need to ensure I allow space for their production.

Thanks for understanding 🥰

I've just finished another interactive sewing project up at our local school, this time with my 7yr old sons class. Each child chose 3 fabrics from our old stash which they got to rip (while feeling like the incredible hulk!) into long strips. Then we taught each of them how to plait in turns, joining each collection of fabrics on to the end of the previous persons. Once we had 30mtrs of plaiting, I started coiling it up and each child got a chance to have a turn with their foot on the sewing machine "accelerator" while I handled all the fabric near the needle - yes brave I know! The end result was this awesome mat for their reading corner with a couple of re-covered old cushions I added in for good measure 😍

For me, these sorts of projects are my "time out" away from the craziest/busiest last few months of my usual work and a way of trying to be more present with my kids too.

If you are interested in trying to make one of these mats with your little people, here is a link to the tutorial I followed! https://blog.megannielsen.com/2018/02/make-braided-rug-fabric-scraps-old-clothing/

I found a great series called "The Collection" in the drama section of Tvnz on demand. It's about a Couture fashion house based in Paris in the 1940's and is definitely worth a watch if anyone's interested! 📺🎥

A crucial part of the pattern process is ensuring that all the seams will sew together correctly on ALL sizes, in this case from size 6-20. I not only have to ensure that the garment will grow by the required amount overall, but that each seam will grow by the same increment as the piece it will be sewn too! 🤪
