I’ve already posted a reel about this bucky, but I think she deserves some still shots to swipe through at your own pace.

Because sheeeesh❣️

She was made from the most beautiful unused vintage towel. After its first wash, the colour ran and it developed darker stripes in all the pink detail. But rather than distract from the pattern, it added to its story.

That’s one of the precious things about working with vintage textiles. Getting to honour their history, give them a new life, and add to their story.

How one hat turned into three (well, actually four):

GilliT initially asked for a hat for herself. Then her sister jumped on board because if you’re already paying for postage, you may as well get a couple right!?

Then her friend decided if two’s company, may as well make it a crowd, and got one too.

And after all of that waiting for me to make the three hats, Gillan decided she needed one more for herself 😂

Going green 🌱

When Kiri-Jean Green asked for a pōtae, she had her heart set on orange… until she saw this green towel. I’m sure you can figure out what happened next 🤪

This happens so often. You think you have an idea of what you want, until you see your soulmate towel. You can’t stop thinking about it, dreaming about long walks on the beach with it, staying up all night with it, talking about nothing and everything, being excited to wake up each morning and see it looking back at you 😂

Beach days and bags of lollies 🌊 🍭

This hat feels like sandy toes, oversized ice creams, salty hair, and maybe some sunburn at the end of the day 🫣

I love how just one glance at a vintage towel, and all the emotions and memories bubble up. Sometimes it’s being spoiled grandma’s house, sometimes it’s long summer days, and sometimes it’s a guest coming to over so your mum gets out the fancy towels.

“l had this towel when I was little!”

When The Traveling Boutiki spotted this towel in a pic of my vintage towel stash, the nostalgia hit immediately.

I got to work making her a bucky, while ThreadsInTime sent her a matching top. Now Sarah’s head to hip in childhood memories.

One of my favourite things about working with vintage textiles is the memories they evoke, whether it be your bath-time as a kid, sleepovers at grandma’s, or summer days at the beach.

We couldn’t decide if we preferred the front or the back of this bucky more. Which way would you wear it?

If the biggest compliment a maker can get is a repeat customer, I am blushing from ear to ear because this is Dominica Kelly’s fourth hat and she’s just asked for another ☺️🥰🙏

Regretting not steaming this one properly before taking photos 😓

At least the stripes line up really well 😂

After seeing the hats I was making for and her tamariki, her husband wanted in on the action, so the whooooole whanau has a ColCol bucky now 🥹

It was an absolute dream making these pōtae and definitely a “pinch me” moment getting to make hats for an entire family.

The Three Sisters.

This lil stack of patchy hats were made for a set of 3 cute siblings.

They were part of the family of hats for . The words “The brighter the better”, “mix it up!!!”, and “Go crazy hahaha!!” were used in our chats about making these hats. Do you think I met the brief?
