New Plymouth Clothes Swap

New Plymouth Clothes Swap Welcome to New Plymouth Clothes Swap! They take place twice a year. Entry is $5 & a bag of good condition clothes to swap. HOW DOES IT WORK? Any questions?

This is a not-for-profit community driven event, with a reuse/reduce/recycle philosophy. It's a chance to bring people together and create a place where those clothes you just aren't wearing can be given new life! We are a group of friends in New Plymouth that volunteer our time to organise and run these events twice a year. We're having fun and creating an event that can benefit others too! You b

ring $5 (cash only) and a bag of clothes (or more if you like!) in good condition (no stains, holes etc). It can be mens, womens, childrens, accessories, shoes, maternity, active wear etc, bras and new un**es to donate to Upliftbras.org. This year we are requesting you drop off your items at the hall the day before if you can manage it. You pay at the door on Swap Day and your clothes which get sorted by our fabulous volunteers and put out for other swappers. You'll get a stamp on arrival and you can come and go anytime between 11am - 1pm. There is no limit to the amount you take, we just ask that you be respectful to other swappers - this is a friendly community event. All leftover clothes are donated. Just ask!

Well well well! We were planning our next swap for the 30th May, but that looks likely to be on pause. More time at home will give alot of us a chance to have a good autumn clear out of our belongings! Remember to keep some great quality item for your next swap donation! Clothes, shoes, jewellery, accessories for men/women/non-binary and kids! Stay safe, lovely New Plymouth Community! 🥰

New Plymouth Clothes Swap is a non profit volunteer-driven event, with the motivations of decreasing some of the waste and pollution created by fast fashion, and making style and comfort affordable for everybody! With our expenses covered by the popularity of July's Swap, we will have a healthy donation of money to redistribute back into other local volunteer lead organisations that fit with our kaupapa of doing our bit to look after eachother and the planet. We will be donating money to the following:
-On The House, who redistribute otherwise wasted quality surplus food in New Plymouth to anybody in need, and co-founded by NP Clothes Swap's own founder, Katherine Blaney (currently looking for a new coordinator - get in touch if interested!)
- Taranaki Toy Library, a non profit trust who follow the ethos of reduce/reuse, while having fun!
- Sustainable Taranaki who are on a mission to provide and promote sustainable education, action, and advocacy in Taranaki.
- Taranaki Retreat who do an amazing job of providing generous care for people in a time of need.

We will also be donating all the leftover clothes to St John Op Shop, and to Te Puna Waiora at Base Hospital.

How much should you bring to Clothes Swap? We're not fussy - it can be as few as 3 items or a couple of bags full, so long as each piece is clean, in great condition, and something you'd be happy to hand directly to someone else to wear and appreciate. An average donation is one shopping bag full.

Thank you Ange Blackmore Smiley and Access Radio Taranaki 104.4 FM for having our NP Clothes Swap founder Katherine Blaney on their Sweet Talk show this morning! Have a listen to learn more about the swap - if you don't have time for the whole episode, she's on around the 25 minute mark. So awesome to have their support in sharing our message and event!

Ange speaks with dawn from The Apothecary about Wican magic and wellness, and Katherine Blaney from New Plymouth Clothes Swap. Then she switches it up with a phone interview with Lloyd Cole, who has just arrived in the country for his NZ tour.

Kia Ora Swappers! We're especially keen for early drop offs this time round, so we can have the biggest range of goodies laid out for you to choose from. Your $5 can be paid when you drop off your items before the event. We will add your name to the door list so entry on the day is speedy. Here are your options:

> A fresh faced crew of volunteers will be at the venue - Highlands Intermediate Hall - from 3:30-8:30pm on FRIDAY 29th Nov, setting up and available to take your donations.

> If you know one of our volunteers personally, you could arrange to drop off in the WEEK before the event...perhaps a good excuse for a catch up! Know any of these helpful ladies? Clodagh Armstrong, Andrea Garcia, Simone Nickloes, Rachel McCalman, Katherine Blaney, Kati Freeman, Victoria Dickie, Georgie Henderson, Sonya Goodchild-Brooks, Halema Jamieson, Bridget Davis.

>From 10am on the day but note the swap won’t start until 11am on Saturday 30th. You can bring your items and your $5 with you!

Remember we're looking for QUALITY over QUANTITY, items need to be clean and in good condition, ready to be loved/used by someone new!
