Heaps Choice

Heaps Choice Awesome clothes for awesome people...Double win right there! The birth of Heaps Choice was in January 2010. There were no background thoughts or anything.

After breaking my leg in 2 places after a tree jumped out in front of me in Park City, Utah, i got bored of watching daytime TV and playing Nintendo (in my mario pj's). It was now that a kind friend taught me how to French knit. Experimenting with colours and styles everyone was pretty stoked with the finished product with a few friends raising the idea that I should start selling them. After sell

ing a few beanies in Park City,I then flew back to NZ to finish rehab within the comforts of home(and sunshine). Still knitting like mad, sitting on the couch the name Heaps Choice Creations came into my head. just BANG!!! There it was. The rest is history and here we are today, making quality Heaps Choice products for both guys and gals

New order of mangō au pounamu has arrived so all colours/styles are now in stock.
Blue sharks are a difficult species to protect as they swim long distances across our oceans.
During a study, a male shark tagged off the northeast coast of NZ clocked up more than 14,000km via Pacific Islands, Indonesia and then back again while females stayed within NZ waters year round.
Caps are $46 each with $1 of every purchase going towards shark conservation (you’re welcome to donate more if you’re feeling generous to our finned friends).
The quick dry is best matched with sun, sand, watermelon and cold frothies.
DM for orders.

Unlike our hooooman groms mangō pounamu usually have litters of 25-35 live pups (0.35-0.5m in length) but can give birth to well over 100 live young in one litter.
This along with maturing at a comparatively younger age (4-6 years) they have a great shot at recovering their populations. Want to protect your groms from the sun while helping to protect the blue shark??? At $46 you will be donating $1 to shark conservation with the encouraged option of donating more.
The five panels are a smaller fitting and fully adjustable lid, perfect for the young ones while out exploring.

Introducing our second style in the mangō pounamu range, the Quick Dry.
Same awesome artwork by and same pricing structure ($46 + any extra donation you want to give for shark conservation) just different cap and colours (blue, clay and fire orange).
Now…shark fact time.
The efficient body shape of mangō pounamu is the result of its nocturnal feeding habits.
Blue sharks mainly feed on squid during the night using their sense of electroreception (very accurate built in fish finders).
Plankton swim up to shallower depths to hunt under the cover of darkness and then return back to the depths to conserve energy in the colder waters during the day. The squid then feed on the plankton who are closely followed by the blue shark.
It’s a daily vertical commute from cold water (200-1000m) to warm water, shallow enough for light to shine through and back to down again.
This continual migration gives the Blue shark its slender, endurance athlete look as it ascends and descends 100’s of metres daily.

Introducing mangō au pounamu(5 panel edition)
Sharks in general have been copping a bad wrap recently but they play an integral role in our marine ecosystem.
Why did the Blue Shark??
Prior to the hard work of Riley Elliott - Shark Scientist and getting shark finning banned from within Kiwi waters in 2014, NZ was a major exporter of shark fins with mangō au pounamu a major targeted species. Thanks to him there are a whole lot more sharks still swimming in the sea rather than their fins in a soup.
We’re trialling a unique pricing structure where the hats are $46 with a $1 from each purchase going towards shark conservation and anything above $46 will get added to the donation!
I’ve been excited about this collaboration with good friend and talented artist for a while and i’m more than impressed with the the final product.
Also thanks to for the 📷 shots.
And finally. A big shout out to our sharky friends 🦈
