OK...a little bit about us and our story.
We are a husband and wife business. We're both teachers - I teach Mathematics, my wife teaches English.
I have always loved mathematics - I know, I know, weird, but there it is. I especially love Geometry - for me, it is where Art and mathematics intersect. I love patterns, symmetry, tessellations - you get the idea.
A couple of years ago, I got my own lasercutter for the shed and once my wife found out how much it cost, she put me to work!
We are both inspired by the students at the school we teach at, and many of the patterns I design are influenced by their different cultures.
I have spent some time making Art. I design in CorelDraw, which is a vector drawing programme similar to Adobe Illustrator. When I design, I can seperate the layers and get an idea of how the finished product will look. Each design takes a significant amount of time. I then cut a trial run using MDF, and see if I need to make any modifications to the design to take into account the material and how it actually looks in 3D. From there, I stain and polyurethane the plywood sheets, cut, and assemble.
Each design is a limited run - once I have cut a certain amount of that design, that's it! I figure the only way to make it cost effective in terms of the large amount of design time is to effectively make each product a "print".
If you are interested, you can message us on Facebook - we are getting used to posting regularly (I promise, it's a goal next year to get better at this!). Sizes and prices are available on https://geometrikanz.myshopify.com/ which you can purchase directly from, or you can send us a message on here!
Anyway, I hope you like the art!
Please feel free to share this post! That would really help us
