Learn the rare and unique skill of butterfly preservation in this two-day workshop! Experience the teaching of Claire Todd from Vintage Liberation, facilitated by Flora Fauna and QAS Queenstown Art Society.

Friday 15 November and Saturday 16 November, 6pm - 7pm $95 for both days

Bring butterflies back to life through the art of preservation. In this two-day workshop, we’ll work with ethically sourced butterflies, learning techniques to gently inject, open, and set their wings for display.
‍On the first day, you’ll prepare and position your butterfly, allowing it to dry in a natural, lifelike pose.

On day two, bring your creativity to the foreground as we design custom mounts for glass frames. We suggest bringing materials like wallpaper samples, patterned paper, or dried flowers to personalize your mount.

Create a unique, beautifully framed tribute to nature’s delicate beauty!

The qipao is the epitome of Asia fashion.

It has morphed from a baggy drapery of the 16th century Qing Dynasty, into a body-hugging, s*x icon dress we adore today.

1920s saw the influence of the west creep into Shang Hai, as roaring flapper styles were being explored in garments.

By then, China was growing as a global manufacturing country. Business brought in internationals; metropolitan centres were a melting pot of different cultures and influences.

By 1930s, mass advertising, movies, celebrities altered the Qipao to be more alluring.
This was the golden era of this dress. The dress got extremely narrow, to hug the figure. It got seductive! The fabric was silky, ornate detailed high-neck collars and that revealing thigh slit.
Demure and proper on first sight, but with a hint of naughtiness.

The dizzy array of colours and patterns and the speed and craftmanship of the chinese, the Qipao got rightfully picked up and brought into vogue.
When communist china era come into effect in the late 50's the Qipao was quietly whisked away to neighbouring Asian countries.
Hong Kong grabbed a hold of the style and continued its legacy.
Here, we have a very special authentic 1960s qipao on sale. A piece of vintage fashion history to welcome in the Chinese New Year.

Daisy chains and yellow puff sleeves.

A history of lingerie. Women of the 18th century wore no un**es but long lingerie trousers.
Frumpy Victorian was the baseline for underwear.

The French said no more! Monsieur Pierre Valton in 1918 looked to shorten those trousers into sweet little drawers aka aka .
The design was inspired by a song: ‘Maman les p’tits bateaux, qui vont sur l’eau ont-ils des jambes’ (‘Mum, little boats, that go on the water, do they have legs?’)

The Parisienne Can-Can dancers of the 20s kicked up their skirts and could move in these blousy bottoms.
In the 50's, Marilyn Monroe stood over an air vent and these knickerbockers completed her a s*x icon look...

This century, tap shorts on the streets is totally acceptable, in fact, the style keeps making an appearance on the runway.

Here we have some vintage tap shorts to step out in when the sun decides to return.
Because this is true vintage spec, the size is tiiiny! Suitable for size 6 to 8.
Pastel pink satin and a darling daisy pattern. Gathering at the back to boat that butt. 🤭
