A wedding suit needs to do more than look good while you’re standing still.

On your wedding day, you’ll be sitting, walking, hugging people, raising a glass, getting in and out of cars, posing for photos and, hopefully, doing some questionable dancing later on. If you’re getting married in Queenstown, there may even be a helicopter or a mountainside thrown into the mix.

That’s why a good fit isn’t simply about how sharp the jacket looks in the mirror. You need to be able to move comfortably in it too.

PRO TIP: When you’re trying on your wedding suit, move around. Sit down. Lift your arms. Button the jacket. Check that the trousers feel comfortable when you sit. You’re going to be wearing this outfit for hours, so make sure it works for the whole wedding, not just the first photo.

Can we make a case for the grey wedding suit?

Black gets plenty of attention and navy is always a favourite, but grey might just be the underrated option of the lot. It’s smart without feeling overly formal, softer than black, and incredibly easy to style around the rest of your wedding.

Keep it crisp with a white shirt, add colour through your tie or buttonhole, bring in some texture, or do what this groom has done and make the whole look completely your own.

Grey also looks right at home in a Queenstown wedding, particularly against all those blues, greens and earthy mountain tones. A very good all-rounder for a not-so-ordinary day.

Every groom thinks he’s organised… until the week before the wedding.

Here’s what suddenly becomes very important:

✔️ “Where are my cufflinks?”

We’ve literally seen it all.

Here are a few bonus tips:
- Try on the entire outfit, not just the jacket.
- Wear the shoes around the house for an hour or two.
- Steam or hang your shirt the night before.
- Nominate one groomsman to carry the rings, don’t assume someone else is doing it.
- Eat breakfast. It sounds obvious, but a surprising number of grooms forget once the excitement kicks in.
