Taupo Celebrant Celebrating beautiful futures, wonderful lives, special moments, family, friends & occasions

I am a registered independent Taupo-based celebrant and a member of the Celebrants Aotearoa (CANZ) and have previously served on their national executive and am the immediate past president. With a lifetime in the communication and public relations sphere, it's my love of people and the intersections at important times of life that's drawn me to be professional celebrant. It's such a privilege to

help facilitate and celebrate beautiful futures, wonderful lives, special moments, family, friends and occasions.

One of the joys of being a Taupō celebrant is knowing the people and places that make this region so special.

If you're planning a wedding here, I've put together a directory of trusted local venues and suppliers to help you get started.

Take a look and discover some of the magic of the Central Plateau.

As a celebrant, I've had the privilege of being with families in the days following a death. I've seen that while every grief is unique, no one should have to navigate it alone. As a grief educator, I help people understand what grief asks of us - not how to "move on," but how to carry love and loss together, with compassion, curiosity, courage, and hope.

As a celebrant, I'm often reminded that remembering is an act of love.
Matariki offers us a gentle invitation to pause and honour those who have gone before us, cherish those who walk beside us today, and look to the future with hope.
Whether your heart is full, healing, or quietly carrying the weight of loss, may the rising of Matariki bring comfort, gratitude, connection, and the promise of new beginnings.

Mānawatia a Matariki.

Ideas for adding personal touches that don't feel overly formal or staged - part 2:

• Have a guest bring your rings forward and say a few words about what marriage means to them, or tape the rings under your guests' seats and they become surprise ring bearers.
• Take a quiet pause during the ceremony to look around and soak in the fact that all your favourite people are in one place.
• Leave room for laughter. The best ceremonies often have a few unexpected moments.

At the heart of it all, a great ceremony doesn't need lots of extras. It just needs to sound like you, feel like you, and reflect the life you're building together. That's where the magic happens.

Sometimes the most memorable wedding ceremonies are the most personal. Over the next couple of posts, I'll share ideas that I've experienced and that don't feel overly formal or staged:

• Tell the real story of how you met, including the funny bits.
• Invite a friend or family member to share a short reading they've written themselves.
• Include a moment to acknowledge the people who helped shape your relationship.
• Share private vows with each other before the ceremony, then exchange simpler vows in front of guests.

Part two coming tomorrow.

Winter has well and truly settled in! ❄️

Lately, I've been embracing crisp mornings, catching up with wonderful people, and looking ahead to the celebrations still to come.

How about you?

Sending warmth your way this July. 🤍

Planning a wedding? Here's one small change to be aware of.

From 18 June 2026, the New Zealand marriage licence fee has increased from $150 to $158.

While it's not a huge jump, it's worth keeping in mind as you plan your wedding budget and work through the practical details of your big day.

This change is part of a wider update to Births, Deaths and Marriages fees, which have remained unchanged for nearly ten years. Further increases of the same percentage are planned for June 2027 and June 2028.

As always, your marriage licence is an essential part of the legal process, so make sure you apply in plenty of time before your ceremony.

It is always a privilege to help families honour the life of someone they love.

Receiving words like these means so much, and I'm deeply grateful to have been trusted to help create a farewell that reflected a life well lived.

Celebrating Life 🤍

A living funeral allows you to celebrate life with the people who are special to you at a time when you can participate and help direct a ceremony. It's an opportunity to honour the living as well as to appreciate and acknowledge the people who are important in your life.

When the time comes, a loss can be slightly easier to bear when special thoughts have been expressed. As Nikki Bray says: "it helps enable us to live without regrets."
