Tips for Investing in a Great Autumn/Winter Shell ☔

1. Look for real waterproof protection
Marmot shells feature waterproof membranes like GORE-TEX, Pertex and our own proprietary Nanopro and Membrain fabrics. Fully taped seams to stop water getting through the stitching. Premium shells can reach around 28,000 mm waterproof ratings, giving reliable protection in heavy rain.

2. Breathability matters just as much as waterproofing
If moisture can’t escape, you’ll end up wet from sweat instead of rain. Our breathable membranes and additional ventilation like pit zips allow you to dump heat when you're moving.

3. Don’t skip the small features
Adjustable hoods, cuffs, and hem drawcords help seal out wind and rain, while well-placed zip pockets keep essentials dry and accessible when wearing a pack.

4. Make sure it layers well
A good shell should fit comfortably over insulation or fleece. The best jackets work as part of a layering system, not just a standalone piece.
