A very special little moment for my tiny brand 🖤

After a massive year of creating TETHER, exhibiting at City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi wellingtonbiennial , putting on a runway show, celebrating Pōneke design, and pushing JPALM further than I ever have before… this Fashion Quarterly People’s Choice nomination feels like the icing on the cake.

The fashion industry is not for the faint-hearted. The last few months have been a wild ride of manufacturing chaos, major cashflow stress, lots of self doubt, and a whole lot of “can I even do this?” moments.

But then I remember the incredible community around JPALM, the people who support, wear, collaborate, and believe in what I’m building… and it makes every hard day worth it.

I genuinely don’t know if my tiny brand can compete with some of the incredible names on this list, but I’m so proud to even be nominated. After years of quietly grinding away, this recognition feels really special to me.

If you have a moment, I’d be so grateful if you clicked through and voted for JPALM 🖤 you can actually vote as many times as you want! So keep clicking away ☑️

TETHER is JPALM’s fourteenth collection, designed by Julia Palm and produced entirely in Aotearoa through a network of local patternmakers, cutters, machinists, knitwear specialists and textile suppliers.

Grounded in collaboration and craft, TETHER explores the relationships between garment, maker and wearer. Alongside the runway collection, a series of one-off show pieces created exclusively for COMMON MATERIAL allowed experimentation beyond the constraints of production, bringing together photography, textiles, jewellery, sound and performance.

Presented as part of COMMON MATERIAL - Wellington Biennial, June 5th 2026 at City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi.

The STJÄRNA dress - our finalé dress in the TETHER runway show at COMMON MATERIAL City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi 🩶

With approximately 80 hours of hand beading in the sculptural sleeves, and glowing like a star down the runway in a reflective sports fabric - it is a true labour of love. This dress was made completely in-house at our workroom on Wakefield St in Wellington (a special shout out to Abbey Burgess - we truly put in the hours over 4-5 days). This design began as a thought about what I could make if it didn’t have to go into manufacturing or be reproduced, and what a show stopping result.

We are so excited that this special one-off piece will be bought by City Gallery as part of their collection & get to live on and be seen by many.

This look was truly brought to life with the help of BUOY SALON | WELLINGTON’S BEST SALON EXPERIENCE , Mathias Ryder Te Moananui , Natalee Fisher | Wellington Makeup Artist and their incredible teams!

Jewellery worn on the runway is by our talented friend Gabe ELLIOTT METAL - and perfectly matches the vibes as per ☑️

Another incredible part of COMMON MATERIAL was the Designer Talk with my fellow goth besties Jimmy D Of BODY Dr Chelsea Nichols ✨

What felt like a chat amongst friends drew a crowd of more than 100 people, who came along to hear us discuss the realities of running small creative businesses in Pōneke, how the city shapes our work and lives, and the communities around our brands that keep us going.

We also spoke about Slug Pop Up and how it has evolved into a space for experimentation, risk-taking, collaboration, and fun. 🖤

Thank you to all who joined us x
