Kia Ora Ice Cream friends, it’s been a minute! Apologies for the long silence, but we wanted to give you an update.

After some deliberation post moving out of our last manufacturing facility, we decided to cease operations at the end of last year. We had an incredible run and we are eternally grateful for all of your support; the Wellington community, in particular, has there for us from the very beginning.

While we recognize that times are tough, we hope that you will continue to buy from small, local businesses/producers in lieu of large corporations; now more than ever, our small food businesses need your support.

Thanks again for all the love and eat good ice cream!

Some news…

Hello Wooden Spoon family,

As many of you already know, our landlord has other plans for our building and has suddenly and unexpectedly asked us to leave. It’s incredibly challenging to find a suitable (MPI-compliant) home for dairy manufacturing in just a handful of weeks. Usually, this requires time, a fit out and, of course, a sizable investment.

This also comes at a time when we’ve seen our costs rise 20-30% for nearly everything from ingredients to transport to packaging and more. We know we are not alone in experiencing this pressure.

Given these circumstances, we have made the difficult and unwanted decision to scale back our product lines, so we can continue to supply Wooden Spoon ice cream, but in a much more limited capacity.

Although we are saying goodbye to our 500ml tubs and ice cream sandwiches from stores throughout New Zealand, we will continue to supply our 5L range at Inside Scoop / New World Wellington City, Miramar New World, and Newtown New World. Please support these stores by grabbing a scoop or two - as they have been great supporters of us over the years!

We also look forward to supplying custom 230ml and 5L tubs for trade and private functions. We hope you will continue to support Wooden Spoon and small, local producers when possible. We have had an incredible run and could not have done it without our incredible community.

2 more winter warmers for those cold nights on the couch!

Cookie Butter
This was the best mistake we’ve made in a long long time!

Recently our chocolate chip cookies came out of the oven way too big for our ice cream sandwiches (think saucer sized). So we turned them into an incredibly delicious spoonable cookie butter and we couldn’t stop eating it. Swirled into a biscoff ice cream, Cookie Butter is irresistible!

Apple Pie
Quite possibly one of our favourites since way way back, it’s the return of Apple Pie! We love when vanilla ice cream melts over warm apple pie and each bite is a creamy, crunchy, buttery bite of sweet apples. So here it is, folks, the Wooden Spoon way!

Aztec Chocolate
Just the perfect winter treat, like a cup of warm cinnamon-spiced hot chocolate…except creamier, more chocolate-y and with a bit of nutty crunch. And oh yeah, it’s ice cream…with a kick!

Butter Cake
Butter cake is, well…so buttery. It’s also comforting, satisfying, and paired with a dollop of cream and some berries, it hits all the right notes. Our ice cream version of this classic really focuses on that butter taste and pairs it beautifully with a tart and sweet cherry swirl.

We absolutely love almonds and this ice cream is not only packed with almond flavour, but it’s made even better by folding in our signature super chocolate-y fudge swirl for that extra oomph!

Lemon Crinkle Cookie 🍋
It’s lemon season and we are loving the bright, tart, punch of our lemon ice cream that will definitely have you lemon-lovers reaching for an extra spoonful. Plus, we threw in some lemon crinkle cookie bites for that added crunch and extra lemon pucker!

Chai Biscoff
As things turn chilly, we can’t resist the soul-soothing flavours in a good cup of chai. There’s something about the blend of black tea with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and other warming spices that is both invigorating and comforting. So it’s no surprise our latest flavour is inspired by our fondness of chai… with a little extra added something. It’s our riff on tea and biscuits!

Peanut Butter Oreo
We ate a peanut butter Oreo the other day and this next flavour was hatched. Sometimes that’s just how our light bulb moments happen, and we couldn’t help but wonder why it took us so long. This one will disappear really quickly - it’s the perfect winter treat!
