Ko Kyunga-sup Shim (Te Ahiwhetū-ki-te-Tonga) tōku hoa tane. Kia ora tātou katoa, my name is Nate and I am kairaranga with tōku hoa tane, Ko Rex tērā. We work as a couple to weave traditional Māori raranga raonga, woven Māori treasures we like to call them. We also work alongside other kairaranga in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and we are blessed to have a kaiako who has been mentoring and teaching me for over six years now. I and my hoa tāne are still students in our own way and are continuing to learn in the world of Māori weaving. And are humbled to be able to sell some of the taonga that we can make. We appreciate anyone that does receive a taonga from our weaving house Te Whare Iwaiwa. Our kitenga or mātāpono is about ensuring that what ever we make it elevates the mana of others in what ever way that means to them. Also, to uphold the teachings we are been blessed to know from our matua. And lastly, to always do things with love and compassion to all. Tēnā koutou katoa.

E te pā, tēnei anō te mi`i aro`a i a mātou ki a koe, nāu i to`ato`a ngā taonga tuku i`o o te w`are wānanga tawhīto, ngā taonga `ō`onu. Pērā i ngā kōrero o Te Kā`ui Ao, Te Kā`ui Pou, Te Kā`ui Rere, Te Kā`ui Mounga, Te Kā`ui o ngā Kā`ui, Ngā Ariki mā.

Our love goes out to the Broughton whānau and the whānau whānaui of Rauru Kītahi nui tonu. I would often weave listening to pāpā Rauru on his recordings of Pupuke Te Wananga and it was his words and wisdom that would guide me like many other people who he interviewed and still does…

A lot of what we know and are thankful for comes

Our aroha also goes out to one of our staunch kaitautoko and whanaunga of ours from Rāwhitiroa (aka The Valley) i te rohe o Ngāti Raukawa for the passing of her māmā.

E te rangatira o te mahi pōkinikini, tērā tangata kua hangahangatia, kua rangarangahia hoki i ngā piupiu mō te tāngata nei o te ao. Haere hoki atu rā ki te poho o Hine te iwaiwa ki a Hinenui hoki. E māku nei i te ao o te ora nā tāu wehenga, hoi anō, mātou hei whai ake ki te pupuri o ngā maramatanga nāu i waihotia, i takoha nei i a mātou. E moe, e moe, e moe.

For those who know, a master piu maker and a master of many other things has passed on this morning. A huge loss for the kairaranga hapori here in Aotearoa and many other communities. I would say there is probably less than a 100 master piupiu makers in the world and one of the top has now passed on. Our love goes out to his hoa pūmau and his whānau whānui. A very sad day today for many.

Our Layby Terms:

A 20% deposit is required to lock the item in.
Timeline: The remaining balance must be paid over a maximum of 4 weeks via weekly or fortnightly bank transfers.

Delivery: Your taonga remains safely in our whare and will be beautifully packaged and sent to you as soon as the final payment clears.

Cancellation: In line with Aotearoa consumer guidelines, if you cancel before completion, a $25 holding/admin fee is retained, and any extra payments you made will be fully refunded.
