Ko Kyunga-sup Shim (Te Ahiwhetū-ki-te-Tonga) tōku hoa tane. Kia ora tātou katoa, my name is Nate and I am kairaranga with tōku hoa tane, Ko Rex tērā. We work as a couple to weave traditional Māori raranga raonga, woven Māori treasures we like to call them. We also work alongside other kairaranga in Te Whanganui-a-Tara and we are blessed to have a kaiako who has been mentoring and teaching me for over six years now. I and my hoa tāne are still students in our own way and are continuing to learn in the world of Māori weaving. And are humbled to be able to sell some of the taonga that we can make. We appreciate anyone that does receive a taonga from our weaving house Te Whare Iwaiwa. Our kitenga or mātāpono is about ensuring that what ever we make it elevates the mana of others in what ever way that means to them. Also, to uphold the teachings we are been blessed to know from our matua. And lastly, to always do things with love and compassion to all. Tēnā koutou katoa.

Kia ora tātou, we have another kete whakairo made with harakeke that we are raffling off.

Proceeds for this taonga will go towards our matuatanga of our whare pora to help in the continuation of our learning.

35 numbers at $25 each.

Once all numbers are sold and paid for, raffle will be drawn live on our page, Te Whare Iwaiwa Māori Weaving.

Mahi whakariterite mā ngā taonga raranga me ētehi taonga whatu.

Doing a bit of prep tonight, after our mahi kutikuti the other day. Preparing for four different taonga types. Piupiu, kono, kupenga and pākē. Come have a titiro if you’re interested in how some of us prepare our harakeke and wharariki before we actually mahi raranga me mahi whatu (weave).

Taonga pākē, traditional Māori woven ceremonial cape. This is named Tipu-oranga.

When we plant our tipu, we care for it, nurture it and what comes is sustenance and well-being for our present and future.

This is going to someone who went to my uncle’s kura kaupapa in Tūranga-nui-a-Kiwa in the 90s who was once the principal, one of his ex tauira. It will go to this person to acknowledge their time of growing u where it was not always looked favorable to go to kura Māori full immersion schools but he did and now thrives, not only as an individual but through those who he has nurtured as well who also thrive today.

It goes to acknowledge their mana for nurturing others in his life and work life, within his mahi,
