Checking out some local textiles.

In Dulegaya, the Guna's native language, "mola" means "shirt" or "clothing". The mola originated with the tradition of Guna women painting their bodies with geometric designs, using available natural colors; at a certain point, after the arrival of the Spanish, these same designs were woven in cotton, and later still, sewn using cloth "acquired by trade from the ships that came to barter for coconuts during the 19th century".

The Mola Museum (MuMo) was created with the aim of having a space to appreciate the Mola as a piece of art. It is endorsed by Panama’s five Guna governing councils.

Next to Cerro Ancon is a small living history pueblito. I loved the handwork (so much work!) on the antique polleras. These elaborate and beautiful traditional dresses are labors of love and can take as much as two years to complete.

Carnival is approaching. I'm looking forward to seeing some fabulous polleras in action!

I'm checking out the upcycling scene in Panama City on the prowl for Jack't ingredients.

Say hello to Ana G. proprietress of shopmyclosetpty Shop My Closet Pty! She ditched her corporate job in '21 to go all in on her consignment shop. We chatted upcycling, fashion, the scene in Panama, and all things entrepreneurship.

She's got an ever-revolving curated offering of men's, women's, and accessories. I found this fabulous bronze Diesel overalls that will one day be part of a piece in a new line I'm percolating... uP***rt. Stay tuned... 😉

I stopped in at the Museum of Contemporary Art 'cause.... TEXTILES!

There were two exhibits installed. I loved the exploration into indigo with a nod to Panama's Afro-Caribbean influences.

The exhibition was a complete sensory experience including sound, movement, and film.
