🌎 Eco tourism ✈️

🌳 Eco-tourism is a form of tourism that appeared some forty years ago, at a time when environmental protection was at the heart of all debates. However, its definition is much more recent. Eco-tourism is a tourism approach committed to sustainable development aimed at preserving the biodiversity and cultural resources of a natural area. 🌴 ⚠️ Eco-tourism is often mistakenly confused with "sustainable tourism" or "responsible tourism". Even if the 3 notions are based on the fundamentals of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental dimensions), eco-tourism unlike the other 2 refers essentially to natural spaces.
Similarly, where "nature tourism" consists of the discovery of the fauna and flora of a natural area, eco-tourism requires a real commitment to sustainable development, moreover the queen notion of the concept.

For example: hiking in a park with a local guide is eco-tourism, as it generates significant income for the host communities while preserving the environment. 🏔 🏜

🦙 Wool and weaving communities 🇵🇪

As soon as you venture beyond the cities, it is not uncommon to come across flocks of sheep, but especially alpacas, in the high plains. An "emblematic Peruvian animal", these herds often belong to the families of breeders living in the neighboring communities. ⛰

🦙 What is the purpose of these herds? 🐑
If a small part is destined for meat production, these animals are mainly raised for their wool. Indeed, these animals have been domesticated for their wool for over 4000 years. In Peru, weaving plays an important role. It is a form of expression and language that goes back to the ancient pre-Hispanic civilisations. A know-how of several hundred years.

Alpaca wool is one of the softest in existence, due to the great fineness of the fibres in its coat. The older the animal gets, the finer the fleece becomes. This is why the fleece of the youngest alpacas, called "baby alpacas", is by far the softest.

🧣 Why choose alpaca wool over other types of wool? 🧤
Alpaca wool has many qualities. Alpaca wool is light, strong, elastic and above all warm, a very important quality especially if you live in the high altitude steppes of Peru, where temperatures can quickly turn negative. In addition, it has insulating properties. And most importantly: alpaca wool is free of lanolin, a natural fat found in sheep's wool for example. This fat is responsible for allergies. Without this allergen, alpaca wool is a hypoallergenic product, perfect for sensitive skin such as that of babies.

🧶 How is alpaca wool produced? 🧵
To produce alpaca wool, the animals are shorn every year. Breeders obtain about 2.5 kilos of wool per animal. The fleece is then graded, washed to remove dust, combed and finally spun. The wool is ready to be dyed with natural plant-based dyes. These are environmentally friendly and do not pollute the earth. The colors are also prepared from cochineal insects, which live on the Nopal cactus, of which Peru is a major producer. The insects feed on the fruit of the plant and produce brown pigments. The insects are then dried in the sun and ground into a powder. This powder, mixed with hot water, produces carmine red, which can be made into many other colors using different caustic materials.

It is particularly the women of the communities who weave the wool while the men look after the herds. The trade is passed on from mother to daughter and father to son. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

CURATIVE PLANTS IN WINTER

In addition to providing knowledge, education enriches culture, spirit, values ​​and everything that characterizes us as human beings. A DIFFERENT LOOK
The capacity of Cusco residents has no limits, and even more so, if it is about generating income and surviving COVID-19. There are quite a few undertakings in the City of Cusco that have been forced to reinvent themselves.
However, with an entrepreneurial spirit and creativity, each and everyone continues to advance in this context of a pandemic, as is the case of Guillermina Huayhua Flores, I comment a little.
Guillermina, a 49-year-old woman, studied clothing 28 years ago in Lima. He worked for a year at the end of his career, but for family reasons he returned to Cusco. Upon arriving in this city, he began to care for the elderly, until March 2020 he completed 20 years of service.
In April, Asunta, her younger sister, decides to change a sewing machine for a washing machine.
In May, the same sister asked her to make some jumpsuits for the Huancaro market. Guillermina immediately went for the fabrics, the first one was not to her liking, but for the following she was improving.
In July, she started making pajamas (which was very successful). Guillermina, nowadays makes all kinds of sweets, not only that, but it also ships to the provinces and at the rate it is going is enormous. It already has a brand and logo.
Like her, many people found and remembered that what you were passionate about in your youth will not disappear, because it is your true passion.
