Community Story: Nourishing Hope in
Barangay Dansolihon in Cagayan de Oro City is a rural community where families value cooperation, resilience, and care for one another. Despite many challenges such as limited access to resources and nutritious food, the community continues to work together to ensure that children grow healthy and strong.
The Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC) plays an important role in promoting proper nutrition and improving the health of children in the community. Through the leadership of barangay officials, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, health workers, and dedicated volunteers, different nutrition programs and activities are implemented to support families and children.
One of the most meaningful activities organized by the committee is the community feeding program. Children from different areas of the barangay gather together, bringing their bowls and containers, while volunteers prepare and serve nutritious meals such as rice, vegetables, and noodles. These meals may be simple, but they provide important nourishment and help ensure that children do not go hungry.
Beyond providing food, the feeding program also strengthens the spirit of bayanihan in the community. Parents, volunteers, and local leaders work hand in hand to cook meals, distribute food, and care for the children. The smiles and laughter of the children show how small acts of kindness can create a big impact in their lives.
The Barangay Nutrition Committee also promotes nutrition education, encouraging families to prepare balanced meals using locally available foods such as vegetables, fruits, and other nutritious ingredients. By teaching parents and caregivers about proper nutrition, the committee helps ensure that healthy habits continue at home.
