Madame Isabelle

Madame Isabelle is a Filipiniana couture ensemble featuring the classic empire-waist silhouette and a contemporary reversed collar. The bodice features a solihiya weave that is made with satin strips. The entire gown is made of six yards of green-yellow Isabela weave and took 40 hours for the construction and 70 hours for the embellishment. A black side-seam panel illusion technique is used for this garment to make the wearer look slimmer and more elongated. Inside the garment is found a built in corset for additional structure and support.
The Madame Isabelle couture also features a side pocket for a functional compartment.
The orchid motif is made with faux pearl petals and tube beads all held by galvanized wires. The rest of the gown is embellished faux pearls, glass beads, and crystals all sewn to the garment by hand.
The ensemble itself visualizes a strong independent modern woman that's both conservative and intimidating. The goal of the design is to depict a woman of ambition, a woman of substance, and a woman of power. Madame Isabelle does want to blend in but to stand out in this world of disposable fashion.
Combining both indigenous textile and contemporary technical strategies brings out the better of our very own textile, bringing innovation to our ancestral textile identity.

Cut in liquid mikado silk, the gown features a draped off-shoulder sleeves in liquid organza, and a draped floor-length sash. The gown is embellished with ostrich feathers, rhinestone pearls, and handmade rosette flowers.
