The collection is a study on femininity, drawing inspiration from Marie Antoinette and the Rococo era, reimagined for the modern woman.

It explores softness and structure, excess and restraint, where ornament becomes deliberate and femininity exists as power rather than performance.

LUMAD
(Manila Fashion Runway, 2023)

A 10-piece collection drawn from memory, instinct, and a quiet longing to connect with something older than trend.

Lumad means native-born—a word rooted in identity, often misunderstood or dismissed.
This wasn’t a re-creation of tradition, but a conversation with it.

What does it mean to carry ancestral techniques into contemporary silhouettes?
To let weaving, macramé, and slow handwork breathe in modern form?
To imagine resortwear not just as leisure, but as lineage?

Locally woven hablon, knotted textures, and silk-like finishes in gold, rust, and ochre traced back to the lands and histories that raised me.
Even the satin—a nod to the precolonial silk trade—was chosen with purpose.

This came together slowly, piece by piece.
Nothing extravagant—just a quiet dedication to doing what I could, with what I had.
A love letter in fabric and form.

A study in grounding.
A reminder that fashion, too, can carry memory.

my love letter to the loud, the playful, and the unapologetically unpolished.
inspired by drag, club kids, and anime — this was my first full collection, originally shot and styled four years ago. a collision of color, cartoon appliqués, and denim chaos.

it was always a commentary. a refusal of clean lines and polish for polish’s sake.
a way of asking: what happens when fashion lets go of perfection?

now reintroduced — in full — as part of the archive.
a few pieces might just find new life — maybe even off the record.

Hi, I’m Sam Lim — designer.

I’ve been quiet here for a while.
Not because I stopped creating — but because I needed to rebuild my relationship with the work.
To return to it with honesty and intention.

Over the years, I’ve made pieces for the runway, for clients, for performance, for shoots — and sometimes just for myself. Some things I never posted. Some things I’m only now ready to share.

FIDA: GAYAK 2024

The Gumamela reflects delicate beauty through its vibrant, soft appearance, symbolizing grace and femininity. Across cultures, its striking colors represent feminine energy, passion, and romantic love.

Beyond its aesthetic charm, the Gumamela holds significance in traditional Filipino and Southeast Asian folk medicine. Its leaves, roots, and flowers are valued for their healing properties, often used to treat ailments such as coughs and fevers. With blooms that last only a day, the flower serves as a poignant reminder of life’s fleeting nature, urging us to cherish the present.
