1. 420
- slang term used to refer to ma*****na or unofficial holiday for ma*****na enthusiast April 20th(4/20) occasion for smoking or celebrating the ma*****na.
Brief history where 420 came from:
-Chris Conrad, curator of the Oaksterdam Cannabis Museum in Oakland, California, says 420 started as a secret code among a group of friends at San Rafael High School in the early 1970s who called themselves "the Waldos." Californian teenagers ritualistically smoked ma*****na every day at 4:20 pm. The ritual spread, and soon 420 became code for smoking ma*****na. Eventually 420 was converted into 4/20 for calendar purposes, and the day of celebration was born.
- Another rumor is that 420 is the police radio code for "Ma*****na smoking in progress." Again not true. The only police radio code we found that uses 420 is in Las Vegas and it's used for a homicide.
-Some believe it's the number of active chemicals in ma*****na, others that it's based on teatime in Holland. Some reference the birthday of Adolf Hi**er (April 20, 1889), and others Bob Dylan's legendary “Everybody must get stoned” refrain from his hit “Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35” (12 multiplied by 35 does equal 420).
