Nagsimula ang fascination ko sa retaso nung 2016 pa. It was a way to pass the days na wala akong big clients. Para rin makatipid kaya I made my own clothes. I didn’t sell them. I gave them as gifts sa close friends. Handmade with love!
The last garment I made out of fabric scraps was in 2018. Nag-stop ako gumawa kasi naging demanding yung schedule ko sa weddings and other events. At first, neoprene lang gamit ko. Kasi yun ang pinakamadali at hindi na need ng mabusising pagtahi para makagawa ng magandang design.
Ngayon, sobrang dami kong retaso from past projects that are just collecting dust in my shelves.
In an attempt to get rid of them sustainably, I tried donating them nung una sa mga gumagawa ng basahan kaso hindi daw sila pwede kasi hindi absorbent yung mga tela.
Nataon naman na my event ang ang fiancée ko at nagpapagawa siya ng damit. Gusto nya mismatched fabrics with lots of texture and textiles.
Sobrang scary nun as sewer kasi ang hirap magtagpi-tagpi ng iba’t ibang tela.
So out of my love, gumawa akong isa. And I was in awe with the end result. Kasi who knew? Stitching neoprene and satin with a lace overlay would work wonders???? May creativity ran wild and I spent the entire month of July in my sewing room creating pieces I am proud of.
And here we are. Finally, with love, joy, and perseverance, I present to you: RETAZZO.
