Plastic straws and stirrers will soon be banned in the Philippines? Great… well, not really.
After two decades of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003)'s delayed implementation, the National Solid Waste Management Commission is banning straws and stirrers. These are just two of the top ten plastic polluters in the country, and this is not enough. Together with the Ecowaste Coalition, the Ormoc local government, Greenpeace Philippines, Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability - IDIS, the Philippine Earth Justice Center, Inc., and 39 other organizations, we call on the national government to ban all ten.
