71st FOR CAVITE MOTHER COUNCIL
Porta Vaga Council No. 4072, the revered "Mother Council" of Cavite Province, celebrated its historic 71st Founding Anniversary last Saturday, July 18, 2026. Gathering Brother Knights from District I-31, families, and parishioners in Cavite City, the milestone stood as a powerful testament to over seven decades of unwavering service, faith, and fraternity.
This year’s celebration centered on the rallying theme: "Rise Up Porta Vagans, Accept Our Greatest Challenges." Led by present Grand Knight Sir Michael Cristobal, the event honored the Council’s rich legacy while laying out a proactive vision for the future of Catholic brotherhood in the region.
The legacy of the Mother Council
Established in 1955, Porta Vaga Council 4072 holds an esteemed place in history as the very first Knights of Columbus council in Cavite. This pioneering status has rightfully earned her the title of "Mother Council".
Over the past 71 years, Council 4072 has birthed and inspired a succession of local councils across the province. It has consistently served as the bedrock of Catholic fraternal life in District I-31. The anniversary served as a timely reminder of the deep roots the organization planted in Caviteño soil, transforming generations of local men into steadfast pillars of the Church and community.
Championing the core principles of the Knights of Columbus
The 71st milestone provided an ideal stage to promote the enduring mission of the Knights of Columbus. As the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization, the Knights operate on four core principles:
Charity: Feeding the hungry, supporting local parishes, and aiding families in distress.
Unity: Standing together as a unified Catholic front to support parishioners and clergy.
Fraternity: Banding together as true brothers to support each other’s spiritual and temporal welfare.
Patriotism: Serving the community and country with a deep sense of civic and moral duty.
The anniversary highlights the powerful network of the Fourth Degree and neighboring councils working in unison. Among the district leaders in attendance was SK Louis Chin, Faithful Navigator of the President Emilio Aguinaldo Assembly ACN 1438 and a past Grand Knight, whose presence underscored the tight-knit fraternity linking the councils. Demonstrating the continuous growth inspired by the Mother Council, SK Angelito de los Santos, PGK, also joined the celebration. He currently serves as the Grand Knight of the newest chartered council in Cavite, St. Peregrine Laziosi Council #18881, showcasing the living lineage of the Porta Vaga legacy.
Rising up to future challenges
Looking ahead, the theme "Rise Up Porta Vagans, Accept Our Greatest Challenges" serves as a bold roadmap for the future. Grand Knight Cristobal and the council leadership recognize that modern times present evolving challenges to faith, family life, and community cohesion.
To answer this call, Porta Vaga Council No. 4072 is shifting into a new era of growth. Moving forward, the Mother Council aims to focus on several strategic areas.
As the celebration concluded, the message was clear: 71 years is only the foundation. Armed with a glorious past and a renewed spirit, the Knights of the Porta Vaga Council stand ready to accept whatever challenges tomorrow brings—holding high the shield of faith and brotherhood.
