Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 15:13
"Jesus Christ is the best friend we could ever have."
What is it to be a believer in friendship?
Friendship is hard.
We all have ideas of finding the very best friends with whom we'll never disagree, share a lot of common interests and walk off into the sunset.
When Jesus Christ went far beyond our ideas about friendship, He pursued a friendship with people who were opposite and far different than Him. Still, Jesus was their friend.
He visits their houses, eats meals together, traveled together, they shared moments and life even they have different views.
Sadly, Christians do pursue a friendship with people far from God, It is more of an assignment than it is a friendship.
When was the last time you pray and hang out with the prisoners?
When was the last time you had someone who’s not your skin color, tribe, not your political candidate and doesn’t share tradition like yours over for dinner, or when was the last time you share to others a little you have? when was the last time you did something out of the pure intent of your heart and not for recognition?
Real friendships always drill down on real issues, and few things are more significant than the meaning of life. Your story, your walk are great places to start. Real friendships are transparent.
Though we know that Christians are not perfect, this should not be an excuse. We must always be mindful of how we deal with the traces of hypocrisy, mentally judging, and negative presumption when pursuing friendship. People look at Christians' beliefs, their way of life, and vigilant on how we walk our talk.
People will never believe you, your good image, and walk-in faith if they feel it's just superficial.
Jesus doesn't impose it, He shared it.
