Reflection on Hebrews 5:7 (KJV):
"Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;"
This verse gives us a powerful glimpse into the humanity of Jesus. During His time on earth ("the days of his flesh"), Jesus experienced deep anguish, sorrow, and needโjust as we do. He didnโt face suffering with cold detachment; instead, He prayed passionately, even with โstrong crying and tears.โ This shows us that it is not weakness to weep before Godโit is the expression of deep dependence and trust.
The verse also highlights Jesusโ reverent submissionโโhe was heard in that he feared.โ The fear mentioned here is not terror, but holy reverence. Jesus honored the will of the Father above all else. Though He prayed to be saved from death (as seen in Gethsemane), He ultimately submitted to Godโs perfect plan.
Reflection point:
When we face our own trials and pain, Jesus is our example. He invites us to pour out our hearts to the Father with honesty and reverence. And like Him, we may not always be spared from sufferingโbut we can be assured that God hears us, strengthens us, and walks with us through it all.
Prayer:
"Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us what it means to pray with sincerity and trust. Help us to draw near to the Father like You didโwith reverence, with honesty, and with full surrender. Amen."
