Abba Father, forgive us when we become overly concerned with things we can’t control or change. Help us focus our attention on You. We believe that You are in control of everything we are going through. We let go of our desire to handle things on our own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Fishing is unpredictable. There is no guarantee of reward. It requires patience and risk. In faith, the fishermen would throw their nets into the deep water, letting it sink into the lake out of sight, and hoping that the reward for their efforts would be a catch.

As a fisherman, casting his net out into the water, Jesus was asking us to cast the gospel message out to people.

As the blood-bought and battle-fought disciples of Lord Jesus, let us pray to have that faith and perseverance in spreading His world into this nation.

JESUS INVITED THE PEOPLE TO BECOME HIS DISCIPLES

In the gospel, Jesus used the phrase “Follow Me” about 20 times.

The first two times was used in a literal manner that means “Go behind me.” It meant to re-orient your direction. In Mark 1:17 He said to Peter, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

While the other 18 times that the Lord used the phrase “Follow Me”, He meant to accompany Him and in a deeper sense to imitate Him. In Luke 9:23, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Which means that following means being fully committed to Christ.

Our challenge for you this week is to ponder on how committed are you on following our Lord? Or are you willing to fully commit yourself on following Jesus Christ?

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.

This verse is equally true today as it was in Jesus’ time. As we reflect upon this message, let’s also pray for the Lord to send out workers into His harvest. And as we do this, let’s ask ourselves – How would Jesus show compassion in Philippines, in our home towns, in the circles where we live and move? How would Jesus like us to show Christ-like compassion to the people around us?

LET'S GET TO KNOW JESUS' DISCIPLES.

Andrew was the brother of Peter, and a son of Jonas. He lived in Bethsaida and Capernaum and was a fisherman before Jesus called him. Originally he was a disciple of John the Baptist (Mark 1:16-18).

Andrew introduced others to Jesus. Although circumstances placed him in a position where it would have been easy for him to become jealous and resentful, he was optimistic and well content in second place. His main purpose in life was to bring others to the master.

He is the first to have the title of Home and Foreign Missionary.

Soon you'll get to know more stories of Andrew and how he encountered God in his life.
