Anorexia Nervosa — often simply called anorexia — is an eating disorder characterized by an abnormally low body weight, an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted perception of weight. The person suffering from this usually has an overwhelming desire to become thin.
Our society promotes thinness as something attractive, as something that's to be desired. It let's people think that their bodies aren't allowed to be beyond a specific weight, and it's honestly tragic. There are plenty of other reasons as to why someone has this disorder but the main reason being; this standard that society enforces unto others.
It's time we stop judging and fetishizing people's bodies, there is no such thing as a perfect body with perfect weight. We all have our own imperfections but we shouldn't let society's opinion on "perfection" control us.
It's fine to be conscious about our insecurities, its a normal human thing to do. But we should take care that the anxiety that we feel about our appearance, the pressure that is imposed on us, the twisted ideals told to us by society, don't overcome being comfortable with ourselves.
You don't need to be perfect, you don't need to meet other people's expectations, you don't need societies approval. What you need is to be comfortable with yourself, based on your own standards. Not society's.
By the end of the day, its you who will remain by your side for the rest of your life. If your friends and family make fun of your weight, then don't listen to them. Their twisted opinions aren't a priority in life. Its your own self love and self discipline that prevails in the end.
If you, or your loved one are showing symptoms, as well as below average BMI and have a conscious desire to be thin;
Your Mental Health Matters. There's no shame in getting help.
