Marinduque State University Joins the 18-Day VAW Campaign with Poster-Making Contest
Marinduque State University (MarSU) actively participated in the observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) by organizing a poster-making contest. The theme for the contest was “18-days of Hope: Guhit para kay Juana, VAW Bigyang Wakas Ngayon na ang Oras,”.
The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW is an annual event observed from November 25 to December 12, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the anniversary of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the prevalence of VAW and to promote actions to prevent and respond to such violence.
MarSU's poster-making contest invited MarSU students to create artworks that capture the essence of the campaign's theme. Participants were encouraged to use their creativity to highlight the importance of ending VAW and to convey messages of hope and empowerment for women and girls.
The poster-making contest was just one of the many initiatives by MarSU to support the 18-VAW Campaign. The university remains committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all its members and to contributing to the broader effort to end violence against women.

“VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon ang Oras”
Violence Against Women (VAW) casts a long, dark shadow over society, a blight on humanity that persists in countless forms. From Physical and sexual assaults to emotional abuse and harassment, VAW strips women of their dignity, safety, and fundamental human rights. It is a global crisis that demands immediate and decisive action. Let us unite to dismantle the scourge and create a world where every woman lives free from fear and violence.
The central Focus of the poster is a powerful quartet of symbols: the woman breaking free from chains, the dislodged blindfold, the dove, and the diverse group joined together. Collectively, these elements form a compelling visual narrative that encapsulates the core message of the poster.
The woman, bound yet triumphant, symbolizes the collective liberation of women from the chains of abuse and discrimination. The dislodge blindfold signifies the shattering of illusions, revealing the path to truth and freedom. The dove, a messenger of peace, embodies the aspiration for harmony and prosperity. Finally, diverse group united represents the vision of a world where unity transcends differences, fostering a future of equality and inclusivity.
The upper section of the poster presents a hopeful vision of a world free from VAW. A radiant sun symbolizes the dawn of a new era, while a joyous group of people represents the collective aspiration for a society built on harmony, respect, and empathy. This harmonious scene embodies the ultimate goal: a world where violence against women and children is eradicated, and everyone can live with dignity and security.
The sides of the poster show the division of two contrasting scenes that represent the impact of violence against. On the right, a naked woman is terrorized by an ominous, chained hand, multiple shadowy hands, and sinister faces of her tormentors. This graphic depiction symbolizes the physical brutality inflicted upon women. In contrast, the left side portrays a woman, fully clothed, who is equally frightened by the same menacing threats. This image emphasizes the psychological trauma that often accompanies violence against women.
Finally, at the lower middle section of the poster, a figure with veiled eyes is depicted. This symbolizes the far-reaching consequences of VAW. Victims often find themselves trapped in a cycle of fear and isolation, their access to freedom and knowledge severely curtailed.
