: The rationale behind using this hashtag as the primary keyword for the Yours Truly campaign is to depict the message that simply by being you, you are empowered. You doing your own thing is what drives your personality, your individuality and your freedom of expression. Empowerment no longer needs to fit in a certain box. It is what you make of it.

"The crisp autumn air, the warm feeling of women from my community around me, sipping their tea, radiating positivity and comparing their sample patches of threadwork to share their ideas and receive feedback, it finally sunk in how far we have come along. Having been born and raised in Chitral, I have seen and heard it all. It gives me a sense of immense pride that I lead a community of workers in my hometown who work tirelessly based on their talent and skill of threadwork to fulfill timely orders of the company we work for.
Knowing our work is worn by women all around Pakistan gives us an identity, a voice, a sense of achievement like never before. Being able to work from the comfort of our homes, at our own pace, on largely our own terms is what enables us to be where we are today. Productive, content, happy in our own skins and living in the moment like never before."

"The decision to decision of what to wear, the deicison to pursue a college degree, the decision of who to get married to, the decision to have a baby or enjoy my career, the decision should be mine. But is it hardly ever mine? Or yours? Or ours?
Why do we get labelled so easily as being a lazy housewife or an overly ambitious career woman? Why do we get confined in an oh so tiny box that only suits the people around us and their chitter chatter regarding our lives? The decision to choose my family over my promotion was a tough one when I was expecting my second child. People around me instilled the fear of being replaced, of never being able to successfully enter the Pakistani job market again, to believe that I was half mad to pass up such a great opportunity. Yet coming back for a job waiting for me here once I was physically and mentally able to take up my work was the biggest relief. A breath of fresh air. A restoration of faith in the way life works out against all odds."

"Have you ever wondered what it is like walking through a Kachi Abadi with hundreds of eyes following every step you take, whispering amongst them where you might be going, asking your parents after you have left to keep an eye on you? I have. I lived that reality every single day just like many girls in Pakistan do. The lack of access to safe and reliable commute for women in Pakistan is perhaps amongst the most significant hurdles we face in regard to mobility even when it is to support our family.
Being the only child of my ailing parents, gaining access to company provided safe pick and drop services to and from my doorstep has enabled me to become the sole breadwinner for my family. The sense of job security and peace of mind I have from a job that I enjoy has not only enabled me to commute securely but has allowed me to save up over the past many years to shift to a modest yet sufficient house of my own with my parents who have never been more proud."

"Being from an apparently comfortable background nobody understood the reason for me wanting to pursue my career. Not even those closest to me. But nobody sees what is behind closed doors, nobody even sees the pain behind those empty eyes that have been left vacant during an abusive marriage.
Standing on my feet was tough initially, tougher than even I thought it would be and I was prepared for the worst. But once the sad reality that some public spaces can be safer than your own house, I grew stronger with each small, minuscule, hardly visible step. I found shelter in my work which allowed me to work as per my convenience and gave me the support system I didn't even realize was lacking in my life. The financial stability not only enabled me to develop a backbone but also eventually allowed me to leave my abusive marriage, a step I never thought I would ever be able to take as a timid girl back when I was married. Everybody told me not to, everybody warned me of the repercussion. Yet here I am. Happier and more alive than I have ever been."

They call me Rebellious

Forcefully boxed into the society’s moulds. I refuse to be labeled. I am as liberal as I decide and I am as conservative as I want. As strong as I like. As weak as I want. As straightforward as I like. As gentle as I choose to be.

Empowerment to me is wearing whatever dress allows me to express all the range of emotions I want to show as a human.

There are a million shades to me. I refuse to be labeled black or white.

They call me Submissive.

Staring stereotype right in the eye has become a norm for me.

What they don’t know is that I go by the name of strength as well. Of faith. Of resilience.

Empowerment to me is being able to dress as conservatively as I like, yet being bolder, more outgoing and more ambitious than people perceive me to be.

A billion shades to define me, after all, not everything is black and white.

They call me Empathy.

Perhaps they base it on the fact that I just pay more attention to what people are feeling, tuning in to their subtle emotions.

What they don’t know is that I go by the name of resilience as well. Of courage. Of strength.

Empowerment to me is being able to dress as boldly as I like, yet being shyer, softer and more feminine than people perceive me to be.

A billion shades to define me, after all, not everything is black and white.
