Paisley/Cashmere design

Did you know that the name Paisley, given to this type of ornament in the shape of a drop or tear or cypress, comes from the name of the homonymous Scottish city where it was produced? However, its origin is much more remote and dates back to the Persian tradition (the name for this design was boteh, which meant small tree or bush) and Indian (buta), to then be subsequently introduced in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The other name commonly given to this type of design is cashmere (with its variants, cachemire in French, caxemira in Portuguese, cachemira in Spanish) because it comes from the Kashmir region in India, where the famous and very soft wool also comes from.
