What tip would you give to young designers just starting out in their careers?

———

Advice for young designers starting out.
Graphic design is a tough business, and it can feel like you constantly have to prove yourself. Our biggest tip: fight for your place, stay true to your vision, and don't sell out. Opportunities will come and go, but your creativity and talent are always worth something — so never work for free. Value your work, value your time, and remember that every project you take on should help you grow as a designer and as a person.

What's been your most challenging project so far?

Our toughest challenge?
At some point, we realised we were too dependent on developers to bring our ideas to life. So, we made a bold decision: we taught ourselves how to code — from front-end to back-end, everything. The first websites we built entirely in-house were a real trial by fire, but also incredibly rewarding. Suddenly, we could carry a creative vision from the very first sketch all the way to the live website.

Of course, we also know our limits. For more complex database and CMS systems, we focus on the front-end and collaborate with the brilliant team at for the heavy technical lifting. This way, we combine creative freedom with solid technical expertise — and every project benefits from the best of both worlds.

Learning new skills was tough, but it gave us independence, confidence, and a whole new dimension to our design practice.

How has your time abroad influenced your approach to design?

Design without borders.
Our time abroad broadened our perspectives, brought fresh inspiration, and challenged us to think differently about typography through new writing systems, typography, and visual languages from diverse cultures. Most importantly, the friendships we made along the way continue to enrich our work — both professionally and personally.

How important is typography in your work?

———

Typography matters.
It's at the core of our work at Studio Flux. With so many choices, it can feel overwhelming — that's why we're developing our own tool to simplify type selection. And through our work in the Gulf, we've also discovered a new passion: Arabic typefaces.
