Abdulswamad Musinga is DuHope's Program Strategy Manager in Kigali, Rwanda.

🧵 FUN FACT from DuHope!

Did you know the sewing machines our women train on don't need electricity? ⚡🚫

These traditional treadle sewing machines run on foot power! A pedal underneath the table keeps the machine moving while the women guide their fabric and practice their sewing skills.

And here's the best part: when women successfully complete their sewing training, they receive a sewing machine to help them start their own businesses! 💚

A sewing machine, good scissors, and a few essential startup supplies cost about $200. That's a practical investment that helps turn a newly learned skill into an opportunity to earn an income.

Because these machines don't require electricity, women can keep sewing even when the power goes out.

💚 What can $14 mean to a mother?

In Rwanda, about $14 can help cover a child's school expenses for an entire term.

For the women at DuHope, one of the first things they learn about saving money is how to plan for their children's education.

Because every mother wants to see her children have opportunities.

We start with simple things—setting aside a little money, making a budget, and planning for expenses before they arrive.

And as the women learn skills that can lead to jobs or their own small businesses, they're working toward something that matters deeply: being able to provide for their children with money they've earned themselves.

There's a lot of love behind a mother's savings plan. 💚

💚 Hope is about more than learning a new skill.

At DuHope, Bible study is one of the ways we create space for women to grow, reflect, and discover their God-given worth.

As women study Scripture together, they have opportunities to ask questions, share their thoughts, encourage one another, and explore what faith means in their own lives.

For women who have experienced rejection, hardship, and difficult circumstances, messages of love, dignity, forgiveness, and hope can be especially meaningful.

We believe every woman is created with purpose and value, regardless of her past.

Our hope isn't simply that women leave DuHope knowing how to earn an income. It's that they leave with a deeper understanding of their worth and the possibilities ahead of them.

Because lasting transformation involves the whole person. 💚

30 women interviewed. 20 women enrolled. One new beginning. 💚

On October 5, twenty women began their DuHope journey as part of Cohort 2.

But their journey started weeks earlier.

We partnered with local leaders in Kigali's Remera Sector to identify women who might benefit from the program. Our team interviewed 30 women, listening to their hopes, understanding their circumstances, and assessing their readiness.

Participation is always a choice. Every woman decides whether she's ready to commit to this journey.

Twenty women enrolled.

And when we asked what they hoped for, their answers shared a common theme: a second chance, the opportunity to learn a skill, and the ability to provide for their families.

Now they're beginning Phase 1, building foundations through emotional healing, parenting, healthy routines, and practical life skills.

Vocational training comes later. First, we're investing in the whole person.

Hope begins with opportunity. Change begins with a choice.
