The Western shirt takes on many shapes and forms. Throughout the years, we’ve handled, worn, and loved versions from all sorts of brands, but no one executes the classic Western quite like Freenote Cloth.

Case in point: the Calico Western Shirt.

It starts with a custom 6 oz rinsed blue selvedge denim from Yoshiwa Mills in Japan, giving it that ideal, year-round weight right out of the box. The silhouette features single-point sawtooth pockets and curved front and back yokes, paired perfectly with custom Japanese "Diamond" snaps.

Look closer and the details keep coming, down to the custom bone button with a Southwestern design at the collar. Every single shirt is skillfully sewn right in San Juan Capistrano, California. This is proper, detail-obsessed American workwear done right.

Paired with the M803E Chinos from Big John, made in Japan.

The Trabuco Jeans by Freenote Cloth, cut from a signature custom-woven 14.5 oz selvage denim from Kaihara Mills in Japan. Designed with a timeless silhouette, they feature a classic regular rise, a comfortable relaxed thigh, and a straight leg opening.

In an industry driven by fast-moving trends, true small-scale production has become a rarity over the last thirty years. That’s why we hold such deep respect for Freenote Cloth. Their commitment to building garments where every detail is carefully considered. From the fabric to the hardware and construction, is something you feel the moment you hold one of their pieces.

By manufacturing locally in Southern California, keeping production humane, and honoring the craftsmen behind every stitch, Freenote builds garments that carry genuine soul. Their willingness to constantly partner with the world's finest mills means they never cease to impress us.

The story of Kaihara Mills itself traces back to 1893 in Fukuyama, Hiroshima, where they began as producers of traditional indigo-dyed kasuri fabric. Formally established as Kaihara Textile Mills Ltd. in 1951 by founder Sukejiro Kaihara, they went on to pioneer indigo rope-dyeing techniques in Japan, forever shaping the history of denim worldwide.

Colder weather is getting closer and rain is starting to fall. For us, this is the best time of the year. Autumn is on the doorstep and layering season is here. The time where endless combos lies ahead.

For us, there is no better piece than the waxed jacket, in any form. And Indigofera Jeans does it just right with the Fargo Quarter Jacket in its beautiful greyish green color. A single layer waxed canvas perfect for layering for any condition. This technique of waxing maxes the garment age beautifully, and the cotton canvas can be re-waxed whenever needed for even heavier duty, making it the perfect choice for rainy days.

Thank you !

Throughout the early to mid-20th century, the U.S military adopted denim as a workwear fabric applying it to a range of uniforms across its forces. In 1913, the U.S. Navy issued the denim dungarees as working uniform, initially worn by engineers or gun turrets aboard ships and subs, only to be worn where the standard naval uniform would get dirty.

In 1941, a wider Dungaree trouser was introduced, featuring a wider leg and two large patch pockets, which spanned around the thigh.

The Wheeling U.S Navy Pant by takes inspiration from this historical piece, using an 11 oz Indigo dyed Wabash which will develop a rich character over time.

Today, we are taking a look at the Belford Jeans by Freenote Cloth. Cut and sewn in California, they are using custom woven Japanese 14.25 oz denim from Kaihara Mills, resulting in a classic 1950s silhouette with a high rise and straight fit.

Every element of the Belford reflects Freenote’s commitment to quality. Details such sa the double-needle accents, custom rivets and hardware and the SB Tanning Co. leather patch.

We truly appreciate the brands dedication to even the smallest details, and their thoughtful designs that feel unbelievable to hold in your hands.

Introducing Mister Freedom, a brand which has inspired us for many year, and we are very excited to show it to you and explore the many interesting collections ahead.

Christophe’s story is a special one. Growing up in France, he fell in love with old things that had soul, spending his youth digging through flea markets and military surplus shops. In 1990, he packed up for LA with no master plan, just a deep appreciation for the craft of older things. He landed a job buying vintage, spent years on the road hunting redline 501s, and eventually opened up his own small LA shop, modifying vintage military surplus and old canvas gear by hand.

When Japan’s legendary Sugar Cane & Co. walked into his store and asked him to design a pair of jeans, Christophe had never made a pattern in his life. He took a pair of old naval dungarees, deconstructed them, and wrote a fictional backstory about a Merchant Marine sailor scrambling to build his own work pants.

The resulting 2006 "7161 Utility Trousers”, affectionately dubbed "Frankenjeans”, were far from a basic reproduction, but they sparked a legendary, handshake-based partnership that defined a whole new era of heritage garments.

Come by the shop and have a look and feel at Mister Freedom!
