"They say that if you are lost, if you are very scared and it is very dark, you need to go into the light. But what if you yourself are this light, what if you shine in the darkness like a will-o'-the-wisp and lead yourself even further away?" (by Sasha)Photo by amazing

"They say that will-o'-the-wisps are souls that return. Sometimes we leave without noticing. We leave what we loved, move away, lock ourselves in a parallel universe of sensations about what hurts. We can’t let go, we go so far behind our pain that you can’t reach us, you can’t reach out, you can’t reach the hand. No matter how much you pull, or scream, it's all in vain. It seems that we want to return, it seems that we walk among the living, glow in our darkness with sapphire blue, moonlight white, emerald green - in every fairy tale it is different - up until now, every day there are so many fairy tales happening, in all kinds of ways - we walk and keep on walking." For my first corsetry project I chose bodies from queen Elizabeth’s funeral effigy.

One of the reasons is that, of course, I would like to make the whole outfit of queen Elizabeth I some time in the future and decided to use bottom-top approach. Another reason is that I am in love with the geometry of corsets/bodies with a lot of channels.
Materials are linen and some mix of cotton and something else (what I found in my cupboard). I used plastic bones of 2 sizes due to their accessibility. Eyelets are worked in linen thread. There is an extra cut similar to princess seam, which was made for better fitting.

16th century German shirt (work in progress). Here is the result after the gathering (does it not also remind you of mushroom cap(s)?)
The process steps are: knot on one side and pull gently from the other side until you reach the desired length. Afterwards knot threads to fasten the gathering.

New project: 16th century German shirt (work in progress). One of my favourite elements from this time period is the smock and I will try to show the key points of making it in a couple of posts. Today’s post is about preparing the fabric and gathering. Here I decided to make smock with 1 cm spacing that I traced on the fabric with the help of a handmade template. If I am in a hurry then I might do the gathering stitches on the machine with the highest step - it does not look as nice, but definitely saves some time. The thread should be strong so it won’t break during the gathering (I took polyester thread). In my experience, it is helpful if thread has a different colour, because it is easier to remove it after the smock is done.

Renaissance summer seems to be a theme of this summer for me. I am finishing my trossfrau outfit and torn between trying to make it a bit more historically accurate and to “slash it all” “det gör detsamma vart du går och vem du var, ty minnet av en god kamrat skall alltid dröja kvar”

For the final assignment of my current sewing course I chose vintage clothes theme and have tried to create outfits inspired by the 1940-1950s looks. Here is an alteration of sailor pants, which has pockets in front (and at the back). It was made from viscose though I was not very happy with the fabric this time. I am slowly finishing my courses and will soon get back to sewing and sharing my journey as a seamstress with the world. @ Stockholm, Sweden
