🐎 How to become a better rider? Work with a skilled farrier. ”No hoof, no horse.” It’s one of the oldest sayings in the horse world and for good reason. Every step, every transition, every jump and every collected movement starts with healthy, balanced feet. A skilled farrier does much more than trim and shoe. They help maintain balance, support healthy movement and can often spot small changes before they become bigger problems. Because no matter how talented the rider or how ambitious the training plan, everything starts with a solid foundation.

🤍 Mini challenge: Next time your farrier visits, ask some question about your horse’s hoof balance or movement. You might learn something that improves your riding too.

🐎How to become a better rider? Enjoy the ride!
Most of us didn’t fall in love with horses because of scores, rankings or perfect transitions. We fell in love with the feeling.

The sound of hooves on the arena surface.
The smell of the stable.
The partnership with a horse that chooses to trust us.

Somewhere along the way, it’s easy to get caught up in goals, expectations and constant improvement. But not every ride needs to be productive. Not every ride needs to be perfect. Sometimes a great ride is simply one that makes you smile. Because one of the biggest secrets to becoming a better rider might not be riding more, pushing harder or chasing perfection. It might simply be remembering to enjoy the ride.

💡How to become a better rider? Transitions, transitions, transitions. If there is one exercise that benefits almost every horse and rider, regardless of discipline, it’s transitions. Not only between gaits like walk, trot and canter – but also within the gait itself. A few bigger steps forward. Then back again.

Transitions improve balance, responsiveness, strength and communication. They help your horse stay attentive to the aids and encourage more engagement from behind. The best riders use them constantly. Not because they’re exciting. But because they work.

🤍 Mini challenge: Add five extra transitions during your next ride and notice what happens to your horse’s balance, focus and connection.
