This week we celebrated two birthdays and the fact that we are an exceptional team. We work hard and to keep the tempo and drive up, we boost ourselves from dancing and tons of laughter. For Valentine's day we gave each other feedbacks; what we appreciate in one another ... turns out we can even laugh about our weaknesses 😄

When the leaders we vote for are not making the right changes, it is up to us, as individuals and communities to make the difference. This week, Nature Kids of Siargao met with two companies; one working directly with upcycling plastic trash and one integrating it in its business. Something I didn't count on when planning my sessions: when the dancing seamstresses entrust me with their thoughts, it gives me purpose. The reason why I came here was to be their mentor but when they grow, I grow too 💕 Our lives are intertwined.

We learn from one another; we dance and laugh together, and the weeks go by so quickly. Week 3 has already passed; there are so many fun things to do. Nature Kids of Siargao is like a big playground; there is Studio that turns plastic trash into new products, A.T.E atelier just feels like home, a place where my creativity can get loose. Yet, often do I need to remind myself why I am here. There is something stronger that brought me to this island, something that gives me purpose: empowering women, giving them skills and knowledge; so they can grow within both their professional and private lives. Mentoring the 'dancing seamstresses ' is the beginning of a journey.

The sceneries of Siargao are magnificent; they are enhanced by the power of the waves. It is the waters that makes Siargao so grand and fragile at the same time. Year 2021, Siargao was hit by the super typhoon Odette and theses same waters destroyed everything the people of Siargao had built.
Siargao is rebuilding itself since Odette; tourism is also contributing. But as the waves, tourism is a strength and a danger. This is why the message of Nature Kids of Siargao is so important: protect Siargao's Nature, recycle and be responsible of your own garbage 💕

A.T.E Atelier stands for 'A Textile Empowering Atelier', it provides employment and a platform where the seamstresses may learn new skills. My first week working here in Burgos on the island of Siargao was to see the needs and start teaching. One of the requirements to be employed in this project is the desire to learn, develop and help others; traits I could sense as we worked together. Our goal here during my 3 months stay is for these seamstresses to able to make ones own clothing patterns.

Plastic trash is being shrugged into small pieces. The hard plastic is then melted and poured into new forms to become new products like this new bar that Naomi is holding. The lighter plastic is used to fill Nature Kids of Siargao's bean bags.

Yes!!! Tomorrow is the day I finally get to start working with this wonderful group of seamstresses 💕 Sooooo grateful for all the support I got from so many people. TalentWell and private donators have made this possible. It is not only financial support that brought me here but all the these great people I have met throughout my life showing me what 'life with a purpose' is.
