Good shoes and happy hour have more in common than one might think.

Both ask you to slow down a little. To enjoy the setting. To notice the details. The curve of a glass, the glow of dark brown leather, the feeling that the day has taken a pleasant turn.

The John Lobb Lopez is one of those shoes that carries that mood rather naturally.

Created in 1950 for Baron Arturo López Willshaw, the Lopez has become one of the great penny loafers: elegant enough for tailoring, relaxed enough for an open-collar shirt, and shaped with the sort of balance that never feels tied to a particular decade.

This pair comes in dark brown Museum Calf, with its signature depth and marbling giving each shoe its own character. A little richer than plain calf, a little more alive under changing light, and very much the kind of leather that rewards a second look.

John Lobb itself has been part of Hermès since 1976, with its ready-to-wear collection launched in 1982 — bringing the maison’s shoemaking tradition into a wider world, while keeping that unmistakable sense of craft and permanence.

The Finery Company returns to The Decorum Singapore.

Founded by Joe Ha in Sydney, TFC has built a very particular world of bespoke tailoring. A strong 1940s-inspired silhouette, serious handwork, a deep respect for movement, and garments made in small numbers for those who appreciate the full process.

For this trunk show, Joe Ha will be joined by master tailor Minsoo Kim, bringing clients even closer to the heart of The Finery Company’s tailoring philosophy.

We have put together five things to know about TFC before the trunk show. A short introduction, but hopefully a useful starting point for anyone curious about the house cut, the craft, and what makes this tailoring so compelling.

Good things age. Great shoes usually tell on themselves.

Here, two pairs of Edward Green Belgravia in dark oak antique calf, side by side.

One is brand new, straight out of the box. The other has been worn for four years, through good days, long days, travel days, and more than a few conversations in the Penthouse.

It is not difficult to tell which is which.

The newer pair shows the Belgravia at its most pristine: clean dark oak antique calf, crisp apron stitching, tassels still sitting neatly, and that signature side plaiting looking fresh from Northampton.

The older pair tells a different story. The leather has softened, the colour has deepened, the toe and heel have taken on their own variation, and the small marks from wear have become part of the shoe rather than something to apologise for.

Permanent Style once wrote about how well the Belgravia ages, noting how its mid-brown colour makes it easy to wear across flannels, cottons and tailoring, while the calf develops character through regular wear, cream and polish. That is exactly the appeal here. No dramatic patina work. No theatre. Just a fine shoe, properly enjoyed and reasonably well looked after over time.

The Belgravia is Edward Green’s classic tassel loafer on the 184 last, with all the little details that make it instantly recognisable: the handsewn apron, the braided side detail, the tassels, and the balance between dress and leisure that makes it so useful in Singapore.

Inspired by the Guayabera and Barong, the Cabana Shirt sits in that very Bryceland’s place between utility, romance and old-world summer glamour. A loose, draped boxy shape. A generous camp collar. Three patch pockets. A straight hem made to be worn untucked.

Of all the colours of Liverano, our favourite may still be the ones that appear mid-conversation.

The rich navy of a basted jacket.
The green and red of a tie against grey tailoring.
A flash of hand-rolled pocket square.
A checked jacket, worn with shorts and sneakers.

The open fabric books, the soft shuffle around the fitting room, and the familiar Sunday rhythm of friends coming through the Penthouse.

A Liverano trunk show is never only about choosing a cloth or taking a fitting. It is about developing the eye, understanding the hand, and enjoying the small moments that make the bespoke journey feel so personal.

Sunday at the Penthouse brought all of that together.

Fittings, fabrics, familiar faces, first-time guests, and many good conversations with Taka and Gionata guiding the way.

Good things take time.

A tree does not become a tree overnight. It grows slowly, season by season, shaped by patience, care… and the right hands around it.

A bespoke commission with Liverano & Liverano follows much the same rhythm. It begins with conversation, continues through fittings, fabric choices, small adjustments, and the experienced eye of the atelier — until the garment gradually becomes yours.

Cavendish has a way of making the day feel just that little better dressed.

In dark brown calf suede, there is a reason this tassel loafer keeps finding its way into so many wardrobes. The shape is familiar, the proportions are easy, and the suede gives it that rare ability to sit just as happily with tailoring, denim, linen trousers, or a pair of well-worn chinos.

Hot outside. Good things happening in here.
Singapore style, off the streets and into the Penthouse. Part 6 - Saturday with Liverano & Liverano.

Every trunk show has its own character, but some things always come around again. Familiar faces walking back in like no time has passed. Friends dropping by for a catch-up. First-timers getting their first feel of how we like to do things up here.

Good conversation, plenty of fabrics to explore, a closer look at the details, and the simple pleasure of stepping in from the heat for a proper cool-down. Before long, our space finds its rhythm and the afternoon starts to come together.

That was very much the mood with Liverano & Liverano on Saturday. Relaxed, lively, full of curiosity, and carried along by good company. Just the kind of day we always enjoy at the Penthouse.

The Harvard unlined in dark brown shell cordovan.

For Crockett & Jones, cordovan begins in Chicago with Horween — the family-run tannery founded in 1905, and still one of the great names in shell cordovan.

C&J has worked with Horween for more than 30 years, a long-standing transatlantic relationship built on material, patience and trust.

The appeal of shell cordovan is not only in how it looks on day one. It is in how it behaves over time. The surface rolls rather than creases, the colour deepens, the shine returns with brushing, and the leather slowly takes on the life of the person wearing it.
