Eye Examination is important to spot these eye problems!
9 Important Eyesight Problems
Eyesight problems can affect clarity, focus, central vision, or peripheral vision. Some are easily corrected with glasses, while others can permanently damage vision if not treated early.
π£ 1. Myopia (Nearsightedness)
β Distant objects look blurry, while near vision is usually clearer
β Usually corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery
π£ 2. Hyperopia (Farsightedness)
β Near objects may be harder to focus on
β Can cause eyestrain or headaches, especially during reading
π£ 3. Astigmatism
β An irregular corneal or lens shape causes blurred or distorted vision
β Vision may be affected at both near and far distances
π£ 4. Presbyopia
β Age-related loss of the eyeβs ability to focus on nearby objects
β Usually becomes noticeable after about 40β45 years of age
β Reading glasses or multifocal lenses can help
π£ 5. Cataract
β The natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy
β Causes blurred vision, glare, faded colors, or difficulty seeing at night
β Surgery can restore vision when cataracts significantly affect daily life
π£ 6. Glaucoma
β Damage to the optic nerve can gradually reduce peripheral vision
β Early glaucoma often causes no symptoms
β Eye drops, laser treatment, or surgery can help prevent further vision loss
π£ 7. Age-Related Macular Degeneration
β Affects the macula, the part of the retina responsible for detailed central vision
β Straight lines may look distorted and central vision may become blurred
β Peripheral vision is usually preserved
π£ 8. Diabetic Retinopathy
β High blood sugar can damage tiny blood vessels in the retina
β May cause blurred vision, floaters, or eventually significant vision loss
β Good diabetes control and regular retinal examinations are important
π£ 9. Retinal Detachment
β The retina separates from the back of the eye
β Warning signs include sudden flashes, many new floaters, or a curtain-like shadow
β This is an eye emergency and needs immediate treatment
π£ When to Seek Urgent Eye Care
β Sudden loss or major change in vision
β A curtain or shadow across the visual field
β Sudden flashes with many new floaters
β Severe eye pain with redness or nausea
β Sudden double vision or neurological symptoms
