A proud moment for the A White Shirt community today.
One of our clients, Tien Nguyet Long, appears in today’s Sunday Times feature examining the gender gap in artificial intelligence.
Now Head of AI Safety and Standards at Standard Chartered, Ms Long shared advice for women entering the field that feels both simple and powerful:
“Build, show and tell. Be courageous. Share your AI learnings openly, and don’t wait until you feel ready.”
Her journey into AI began while balancing full-time work, part-time study, and raising two young children — something she credits her husband’s support for making possible.
I first met Ms Long when she became one of the early clients of A White Shirt.
She told me candidly that she didn’t enjoy shopping, but wanted to build a wardrobe that supported her professional life — pieces that were comfortable, uncomplicated, and true to who she is.
The blue Casablanca shirt she wears in the article was one of the early custom pieces created when the brand first began exploring colour.
Moments like this remind me that clothing often accompanies the stories we live — the meetings, the ideas, the leadership, and sometimes even the front page of a newspaper.
On International Women’s Day, it feels particularly meaningful to celebrate women like Ms Long who are shaping the future of their industries.
And for me personally, it remains one of the great privileges of building A White Shirt: the opportunity to meet remarkable women and hear the stories behind the lives they are creating.
