The Octopus Group has on June 12, 2024 officially handed over a piece of land to the Mongegba Community for the construction of a modern hospital. The land, approximately two plots in size, is located in the Western Area Rural District and is intended to address the pressing need for a healthcare facility in the area.
Community Headman, Abu Sesay, expressed the community's joy over the humanitarian gesture during the handing over ceremony. He emphasized the severe health challenges faced by residents, particularly vulnerable women during childbirth, due to the absence of a healthcare facility. He highlighted that the growing population in Mongegba desperately needs a functional hospital to save lives and improve overall health conditions.
In his remarks, the Headman recalled incidents where two pregnant women had to deliver their babies on the way to the Charlotte Community Health Care facility, underscoring the urgent need for local healthcare services. He praised the Octopus Group and its Manager, Rajie Saad, for their commitment to the community’s welfare.
During the handing over, Rajie Saad presented the official documents, including the title deed and a recent survey of the propert, to facilitate the transfer of ownership. He expressed his desire to leave a lasting legacy for the Mongegba Community and his business partners. "By God's grace, we are now officially handing over the property to the community," Saad remarked. He assured that he had engaged with officials at the Ministry of Lands to ensure the land is used judiciously for its intended purpose.
Speaking on behalf of the women in the community, Madam Jennifer emphasized the desperate need for a healthcare facility. She highlighted the challenges faced over the years due to the lack of land for hospital construction and appealed to Rajie Saad to continue supporting the community.
Youth Leader, Abdul Kamara, lauded Mr. Saad's positive contribution to the priority needs of the poor residents. He noted that as a growing community, with over three thousand inhabitants, they face significant health risks without a local hospital. He emphasized that women and children are the most affected and expressed optimism about the future with the planned hospital.
The Octopus Group’s land donation marks a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes for the Mongegba Community.
