The Bantu Wax Bandana combines the ancient Egyptian kerchief with the mystical drawings of the Senufo people of West Africa. The Senufo are famous musicians, artists, and textile makers. They have a rich musical culture playing handmade drums, iron gongs, flutes and horns while their woodworking and sculptural tradition includes coveted carvings, masks and bronzes. The notable Senufo Korhogo cloth is identified by hand-painted designs depicting natural elements rooted in Senufo culture and mythology. The Senufo use these cloths as a shield against vengeful spirits, hanging in a home or shrine, or as celebratory accessories. Senufo symbols in sculpture and textiles have influenced generations of artists, including Fernand Leger and Pablo Picasso.
We work with a collective which is made up of refugee women in Kenya who hand tie dye and hand silk screen each bandana. We hope you love them as much as we do.
