The fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world.
As apparel wholesalers, we sit right at the center of the supply chain — which means we also hold real power to change it.
If you’re wondering where to start, here’s what’s worked for me:
🌿 Start with your suppliers
Ask the hard questions. Where is the fabric sourced? What are the labor conditions? You don’t have to overhaul everything overnight — but you do have to start asking. Suppliers who care about longevity will respect you for it.
📦 Rethink your packaging
Swap single-use polybags for recycled or biodegradable alternatives. It’s one of the fastest, lowest-cost changes you can make — and your buyers will notice.
📊 Audit your deadstock
Unsold inventory is a sustainability problem hiding in plain sight. Get smarter about forecasting. Partner with outlets, nonprofits, or upcycling programs instead of sending excess to landfill.
🤝 Educate your buyers
Sustainability doesn’t stop with you. Share what you’re doing. Help your retail partners communicate eco-friendly choices to their customers. That’s how the whole chain shifts.
🔁 Think in cycles, not transactions
The most sustainable businesses aren’t chasing the next trend — they’re building relationships, reducing waste, and investing in quality that lasts.
You don’t have to be perfect to start.
You just have to start.
The wholesale industry doesn’t talk about this enough. Let’s change that.
