When spring has finally sprung and the weather has warmed up, it’s always fun to pull out your favorite sandals and shoes for the season. But a lot of go-to styles can be bad for your feet. We’ve all heard about the dangers of flip flops when it comes to foot health — not to mention the germs — but it goes beyond that. “It’s easy to slip on a sandal or flip flop but make sure they are high quality and foot friendly,” says Jacqueline Sutera, DPM Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, and spokesperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA). “Many summer shoes, flip flops and sandals tend to be too flat and flimsy. Too much time walking in these types of shoes can lead to not only foot pain and injury but also knee, hip and back pain.” Did you know that certain types of espadrilles and even wedges can be bad news? These are the seven types of summer shoes you should never wear — and what you can swap them with instead.

If you feel like you’re constantly dripping with sweat all summer, you’re not alone. But surprisingly, it’s not just the rising temperatures that can cause you to heat up. “The main function of sweat is to help us cool down as the sweat evaporates from our skin,” says Dr. Melynda Barnes, Clinical Director for Rory. “As we all have experienced, we can sweat when we are nervous even if we are not hot. We actually have two types of sweat glands: eccrine glands, which are activated when we exercise or when we are hot, and apocrine glands, which are activated when we are nervous and these glands are concentrated more in our groin and armpits.”

Summer means it’s time to get back in nature! But that can come with some side effects, particularly poisonous plants. Moms are already on high alert and keeping their kids away from poison ivy, but it isn’t the only one to worry about, even though the shiny three-leafed plant is found in pretty much every state in the U.S. Read on for six other common ones, including what each plant looks like and why you should worry:

If you’re a migraine suffer, you know all too well a migraine attack is far more than a bad headache. It is a neurological disorder that causes incapacitating symptoms for 1 billion people worldwide, according to the Migraine Research Foundation. In fact, it’s considered the sixth most debilitating illness in the world, leaving 90 percent of migraine sufferers unable to function normally during an attack.

If you’ve ever suspected there’s a connection between your migraine attacks and the weather, you are not imagining things. The migraine-weather connection is real. Whether you’re sensitive to heat, cold, dry air, humid air or changes in barometric pressure, the weather works like any other trigger in that it makes certain people more susceptible to a migraine attack.

Every June, straight people flock to Pride festivals to get a taste of the LGBTQ life: Rainbows, parties, glitter, dancing, parades, and endless bottles of SKYY Vodka. Who wouldn’t want to be q***r, right? Amidst the all-nighters and drag shows, though, a darker truth obscures the technicolor glow: LGBTQ indivuals are twice as likely to develop a mental health disorder in their lifetime. And that’s only the start of the sobering statistics.

I was 13 when I was first diagnosed with anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. At the time, my severe anxiety caused physical symptoms such as stomachaches and fatigue. I was familiar with the mind-body connection, so when I began experiencing severe migraine attacks in my early 20s, I wasn’t surprised to learn that there’s a link between anxiety disorders and migraine conditions.
