Phu Thai people in Kalasin province have tradition of weaving intricate design silk shawl called Prea Wa by using discontinuous supplementary weft or jok technique.
The supplementary silk yarns are place in the web of
the plain weave by picking out each warp yarn by hand
and palling the supplementary yarn through them in
specific areas. Different colors of silk yarn can be placed
into the design across the width of the fabric. This technique
is sometimes called embroidery on the loom . The process
is done with the back of fabric facing upwards which allows
for very neat finishing.
