Its cultural roots trace back to the ancient Lanna Kingdom, which shaped the history and identity of the northern region.

Lanna-style textiles are characterized by the use of natural fibers and naturally dyed color tones. The patterns are typically geometric and striped, created through traditional weaving techniques such as jok and khit. These techniques reflect local wisdom, ways of life, and the cultural identity of Lanna communities.

This garment is woven using the khit technique, a traditional method in which warp threads are rhythmically raised in repeated sequences to create continuous patterns across the fabric. The resulting textile has a structured yet refined appearance, making it well suited for adaptation into contemporary garment design.

ผ้าสี่ตะกอ คืออะไร คือเทคนิคการทอผ้าที่ใช้ตะกอจำนวน 4 ชุดในการยกเส้นด้ายยืนสลับกัน เพื่อให้ได้ลวดลายบนเนื้อผ้าที่ซับซ้อนกว่าการทอแบบ2 ตะกอ ทำให้ผ้ามีความหนานุ่ม ผิวสัมผัสไม่เรียบ

ตะกอเปรียบได้กับความยากง่าย ความซับซ้อนในการทอ รวมถึงประสบการณ์ ความชำนาญ และฝีมือของคนทอที่จะต้องมีมากพอสมควรถึงจะทำออกมาได้ปราณีต สวยงาม เสื้อตัวนี้อัดผ้ากาวแล้วสามารถกันหนาวได้เล็กน้อยในเมืองหนาว พอดีกับการใส่ตอนกลางวันในฤดูใบไม้ผลิของเวียนนา

The Thai-modern style coat that I commissioned from Richa was custom-made using handwoven mudmee cotton fabric with a four-heddle weaving technique.

The four-heddle technique refers to a weaving method that uses four sets of heddles to alternately lift the warp threads, creating patterns that are more intricate than those produced by the standard two-heddle technique. As a result, the fabric has greater thickness, a soft hand feel, and a subtly uneven texture.

The number of heddles can be seen as an indicator of the complexity and difficulty of the weaving process. Weaving with more than two heddles requires considerable experience, skill, and craftsmanship in order to achieve refined and beautiful results.

This coat provides light warmth and is comfortably suitable for wearing during the daytime in Vienna’s spring season.
