Caribbean Resort Styleweek Port-of-Spain is the region’s premier showcase event for resort apparel and the culmination of the Coco Velvet International Fashion Workshop. During the workshop, 16 new and emerging designers were challenged to conceptualize, design and develop a Swimwear or Resortwear collection. The top three collections were presented at the gala catwalk event Caribbean Resort which
was held at the Trinidad Country Club Port-of-Spain on November 02, 2014. Styleweek Port-of-Spain is being positioned as Trinidad & Tobago’s official fashion week, the showcase will be held in November to capitalize on the fashion industry’s most important season, Christmas/Carnival when it is estimated that the highest volume of locally designed merchandise is sold. Participating designers will be able to launch their fashion collections to an audience which will include media personnel, boutique buyers, fashion retailers, stylists and fashion conscious patrons. The government of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago is collaborating with fashion industry stakeholders to develop the fashion industry into a viable economic sector and establish Port-of-Spain as the region’s fashion centre. In order for fashion to take its place in a diversified T&T economy, substantial resources must be invested in capacity building and the incubation/development of new talent. Innovation and new product development will go a long way in positioning Port-of-Spain on the global fashion map. Coco Velvet International Fashion Management is committed to the discovery and incubation of new fashion talent in Trinidad & Tobago and the creation of new marketing events to showcase local and regional fashion products. At the NIHERST Fashion Fore sighting Workshop 2005; Resortwear was identified as one of the Best-bets for Trinidad & Tobago’s fashion industry because of the abundance of creative energy that goes into the design of fabrics and resort garments, jewelry and swimsuit design. The Resortwear niche market includes cruise wear, swimwear, jewelry, accessories and fabric design. Caribbean Resort Styleweek will help to establish Port-of-Spain as the Resortwear Capital of the fashion world. Trinidad & Tobago will be positioned as the Caribbean’s International Fashion Centre and attract global reputation for high quality/fashion forward lines in the same way that London has become famous for Avant-garde fashion and Paris for Haute Couture. Over time Styleweek will grow into the Caribbean’s premier fashion week for resort brands; Coco Velvet International will expand the programme to over five days with a full service trade show including a Buyers Gallery and market the event to fashion labels across the West Indies, Latin America and Florida. A display of accessories was set up in the Country Club’s Foyer from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. to allow buyers and patrons attending Styleweek to browse during the Pre-show and during Fashion File intervals. The Caribbean Resort Accessories Market include displays of Jewelry, Handbags, Belts, Hats, Fashion Footwear, Scarves, Sarongs and Fabrics. Caribbean Resort fashion stylists will connect resort wear designers with suitable jewelry, footwear and accessories for their catwalk shows. Maurice Sedwell Bespoke Tailors of Savile Row, London presented an exclusive men’s resort collection at the Styleweek Gala. The collection included a special 24ct gold stripe suit. Sheikh Mohammed Al Amoudi’s suit (valued at stg 48 000.00) and his Cashmere blazer (stg 18 000.00) and exhibited in the Accessories Market under heavy security.
