陳彫刻処は日本時代から90年にわたり親子三代に受け継がれている老舗の木彫りのお店です。このお店は、台中の旧市街として繁栄していた頃から、寂れてしまった現代に至るまで様々な時代をこの街で過ごしてきました。今日では祖父の店も改装され、共同プロジェクトやインターン生の受け入れをはじめ、他の分野における専門家(アーティスト)が集まり互いに刺激し学び合うクリエイティブな木工デザインの場に生まれ変わり
ました。みなさんに台湾の木材の薫りとぬくもりを感じてもらうため、自分専用の器を作ってもらう手作り木彫り体験レッスンも用意しています。職人と道具の間で交わされる会話は、まるで懐かしい時代にタイムスリップしたような…。味のある古い建物と職人魂、良き時代の思い出と共に台湾の伝統の美しさ感じてもらえたら嬉しいです。台中旧市街で脈々と生き続ける陳彫刻処へ、ぜひ足をお運びください。
// An everyday-life woodcraft shop from the old times //
Chen's Woodwork is a woodcraft shop boasting 90 years of history. Started in japanese era, now passed down to the 3rd generation, this shop has been flourishing with the Taichung old town, and now also going through the decline with it. It is now reborn into a hub for artists, craftsmen and students from various backgrounds to collaborate and work with our master of woodcraft, and ideas of creative wood designs can be materialised. We have also designed a series of handcraft lessons, in which you can feel the scent and warmth of Taiwanese wood via hand carving, and discover inside it the unique wooden utensils that belong exclusively to you. You can also listen to the conversation between the master and his tools, go back to the old times when we still get our hands dirty. Join us in the everyday-life woodcraft shop in the Taichung old town to savour the craftsmanship and memories from the old times, and take home pieces of the beauty of Taiwan.
