大甲、大安、外埔等地區，都是在台中海線，早期居民們都是仰賴 #大安港 的貿易維生，每天都有絡繹不絕的船隻進出🛶

考慮到這塊土地的發展，與 #海港 有密切且深厚的關係，期許媽祖能夠「鎮住海浪，以供海上往來人船平安」，所以在西元1787年擴建時，改名為鎮瀾宮。
