12月20日華盛頓的首位公開女同性戀大使在接受采訪時表示，儘管今年在新加坡和越南採取了積極的措施，但亞洲國家在LGBTQ+權利方面正在努力配合全球的進展。

印尼本月早些時候禁止婚外性行為，法律專家表示，該國新刑法中的一條規定可能會在地方層面加強歧視性和受伊斯蘭教法啟發的規章制度，對 LGBTQ+ 人群構成特別威脅。

Dec 20 (Openly) - Asian countries are struggling to match global progress on LGBTQ+ rights despite positive steps this year in Singapore and Vietnam, Washington's first openly le***an ambassador told Openly in an interview.

Indonesia banned s*x outside marriage earlier this month, and legal experts said an article in the nation's new criminal code could reinforce discriminatory and sharia-inspired bylaws at a local level, posing a particular threat to LGBTQ+ people.

"In the case of Indonesia, they're marching towards criminalisation in the face of all these other countries that are decriminalising," said Ambassador Chantale Wong, U.S. director of the Asian Development Bank, which promotes social and economic development in Asia and the Pacific.

While Singapore legalised gay s*x in August and Vietnam declared homos*xuality was no longer "a disease", Wong said 19 countries in the region still criminalise same-s*x relations.

"There are positive movements, but some (countries) are still struggling," Wong said in a video call.

"These countries still target LGBTQ people, criminalise them, persecute them, some execute them, there's public caning in (the Indonesian province of) Aceh," she added.

Other countries in the region that outlaw same-s*x relations to varying degrees include Malaysia, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea.

"I believe it is important that influential people from sports, or any other sphere really speak about it.

"It is important for young people who have a hard time with society and need support."

Shortly after the interview was released, Kasatkina posted a picture on Instagram with Olympic silver medalist Natalia Zabiiako with a heart emoji and called the Russian-Estonian figure skater "my cutie pie" in a Twitter post.

Zabiiako won silver with Russia during the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea and she posted the same picture on Instagram.

In 2013, Russia banned the discussion and "promotion of non-traditional s*xual relations" to minors and has restricted LGBT+ advocacy or protest in public.

The Russian parliament is seeking to broaden the legislation to cover the promotion of LGBT+ relationships in a positive or neutral light and on showing content in cinemas.

Kasatkina lives and trains in Spain, where the interview was filmed and she also called for an end to fighting in Ukraine.

"For the war to end," Kasatkina said when asked what she wants most in life, and she described the conflict as a "complete nightmare."

Criticism of the war or the Russian military can be punished with fines or prison time in Russia.

Kasatkina is shown in the video crying when asked if she fears she may not be able to return to Russia after her comments in the interview.

After a new law was passed in Indonesia, travelers are taking a second look at a Bali vacation. The new law will ban s*x outside of marriage and violators face up to a year in prison.

The law will not take effect for three years but will apply to both locals and foreigners. It will also prohibit unmarried couples from living together. Same-s*x marriages are not legal or recognized in the country.

Insulting the President and government institutions, spreading views “counter to the state ideology,” and staging protests without notification were also outlawed.

The COVID pandemic shut down the tourism industry and Indonesia has struggled to regain the level of tourists it once enjoyed. While 6 million foreign vacationers were expected annually by 2025, that forecast is seriously jeopardized.

“We deeply regret the government have closed their eyes. We have already expressed our concern to the ministry of tourism about how harmful this law is,” Maulana Yusran, deputy chief of Indonesia’s tourism industry board, said.

“Criminalising the personal decisions of individuals would loom large within the decision matrix of many companies determining whether to invest in Indonesia,” U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Kim said.

“We are concerned regarding how these changes could impact the exercise of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Indonesia. We’re also concerned about how the law could impact … U.S. citizens visiting and living in Indonesia as well as the investment climate for U.S. companies,” U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price added during a later press briefing.

Homos*xuality is technically legal in most of Indonesia; it’s only banned in the Aceh province which has instituted Sharia law.

The 2020 raid of a party attended by gay men was part of the country’s continued crackdown on its LGBTQ+ community over the past few years. After publicly humiliating 141 men arrested in a gay sauna in 2017, the government banned all LGBTQ+ TV content, tried to shut down an international LGBTQ+ sporting event, and the Aceh region arrested 12 transgender women and shaved their heads to “make them men.”

An Indonesian mayor recently called for increased raids against LGBTQ+ people. In Aceh province, gay and trans prisoners face 100 lashes as punishment for being themselves.

What makes cartoons even better is when they reflect your own identities back at you. Positive representation in live-action and animated shows leave a substantial impact on viewers. A Spanish whiskey advertisement is warming hearts around the world for its call to families to accept their trans family members this holiday season.

The ad for J&B whiskey, called “She,” opens with an elderly man trying on makeup and reading cosmetic magazines as he practices applying lipstick and eyeshadow.

At first, it seems the ad is about this man discovering his trans identity, but as the ad goes on, it becomes clear he is learning about makeup to be able to support his trans granddaughter.

The ad shows the grandfather’s family arriving for Christmas, including his trans granddaughter, who is initially introduced in the ad as 26-year-old Álvaro. While the family prepares a feast, the grandfather whisks away his granddaughter, who at that moment is presenting as male, and helps her apply a full face of makeup.

When she returns to the family, the ad now identifies her as Ana. Her entire family is brought to joyful tears and embraces her.

The ad then reads in Spanish: “The magic is not only in Christmas. It is also in us.”

The ad is being hailed for its inclusive message.

A statement from J&B said the ad is “a Christmas story that tells the beautiful story between a grandfather and his granddaughter, and how the love that unites them is so great that it overcomes any prejudice or barrier that may separate them.”

“This story is a reflection of acceptance, respect, and above all tolerance.”

J&B Marketing Director for Southern Europe Úrsula Mejía-Melgar added, “We want everyone to feel free to celebrate the holidays, giving visibility to a reality that thousands of people face, including the LGBTIQ+ collective, who seek a safe space to be and show themselves openly. But also for families, who often also suffer the absence of those loved ones who, due to their gender identification or s*xual preference, are not present at the parties.”

Elliot Page has taken to social media to announce he’s releasing a memoir next year. Additionally,

he unveiled the cover of the book, which features a photo of him wearing a white tank top and jeans, while he's sitting against a red background.

The book will seemingly cover crucial points of the actor's life, including his transition, which he first opened up about in 2020.

“Writing a book has come up a few times over the years, but it never felt right and quite frankly,

it didn't feel possible,"he wrote on Instagram. " I could barely sit still, let alone focus long enough to complete such a task. At last,I can be with myself, in this body. So, I've written a book about my story. It's out next June, and I'm so excited to share its cover with you now. At many points in my life, it felt unbearable to be in front of a camera, but making this cover with acclaimed photographer Catherine Opie () was a joyful experience that I will never forget.”

The Juno alum continued, adding the importance his memoir holds for him as transperson. "Trans people are facing increasing attacks, from physical violence to the banning of healthcare, and our humanity is regularly ‘debated’ in the media," he wrote. "

The act of writing, reading and sharing the multitude of our experiences is an important step in standing up to those who wish to silence and harm us.

Books have helped me, saved me even, so I hope this can help someone feel less alone, feel seen, no matter who they are or what path they are on.”

新加坡，11月29日（路透社），新加坡議會周二將男性之間的性行為合法化，但為了打擊 LGBT 社區，新加坡議會還修改了憲法，以防止在其他國家導致同性婚姻合法化的法庭挑戰。

Activists cheered the repeal, but said the amendment to the constitution is disappointing because it means citizens will not be able to mount legal challenges to issues like the definition of marriage, family, and related policies since these will only be decided by the executive and legislature.

The government has defended amending the constitution saying decisions on such issues should not be led by the courts.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his successor have ruled out any changes to the current legal definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman.

俄羅斯議會下院已一致投票決定擴大對所謂 "同性戀宣傳 "的禁令。

根據最新版本的法律，任何對同性戀的宣傳，包括在書籍、電影和網絡上的宣傳，都是非法的，並會受到重罰。

社運人士說，這是對俄羅斯LGBT群體的進一步壓制。

該法案在杜馬（俄羅斯下議院）以397票對0票獲得通過，沒有棄權。

Russia's lower house of parliament has unanimously voted to extend its ban on so-called "gay propaganda".

Under the latest version of the law, any promotion of homos*xuality - including in books, films and online - is illegal and carries heavy penalties.

Activists say it is a further attempt to repress Russia's LGBT community.

It was approved by 397 votes to none in the Duma - Russia's lower house - with no abstentions.

The bill still has to pass in the upper house and be signed off by President Vladimir Putin, but this is largely seen as an administrative step.

The original version of the controversial "gay propaganda" law was adopted in 2013, banning "propaganda of non-traditional s*xual relations" - depictions of same s*x-relationships - among children.

It categorises any positive depictions of same-s*x relationships in mass media or advertising under the same umbrella as distributing po*******hy, the promotion of violence, or stoking racial, ethnic and religious tensions.

Advertising, books and films with positive presentations of LGBT people will be banned - raising concerns from publishers who have warned that it could affect classics of Russian literature.

Any discussions online about LGBT topics can be blocked and the sale of goods with LGBT slogans or symbols would also be prohibited.

Anyone who breaks the law will face a fine of up to 400,000 rubles ($6,600), while companies could have to pay up to 5 million rubles ($82,100).

Foreigners and stateless people risk being imprisoned or expelled from Russia if they do not comply.

Human rights campaigners and LGBT groups have said the extension means that any act or public mention of the LGBT community is being criminalised.

Kseniya Mikhailova of the Russia-based LGBT support group Vykhod (a play on words to mean "coming out") said the original ban nine years ago triggered a wave of attacks on the gay community.

She told Reuters news agency that there would now be a "tsunami" of aggression because the amendment in effect "says the state is not against violence towards LGBT people".

On Wednesday, Anthony Blinken urged Russia to drop the bill "and respect the human rights and dignity of all."

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) says Fifa has told World Cup venues to let rainbow-coloured hats and flags into stadiums for the remainder of the Qatar tournament.

The FAW says Fifa, football's world governing body, has confirmed rainbow-coloured items will be allowed at Wales' game against Iran on Friday.

The Welsh governing body also says all 2022 World Cup venues have been told to follow "agreed rules and regulations".

BBC Sport has asked Fifa for comment.

Former Wales captain Laura McAllister said she felt intimidated having been told to remove her bucket hat when entering the stadium to watch Wales' 1-1 draw with the United States on Monday.

McAllister was wearing a hat representing the Rainbow Wall, the supporters' group for Welsh fans who are members of the LGBTQ+ community,

The FAW said it was "extremely disappointed" by reports that supporters and some members of its staff had been asked to remove and discard Rainbow Wall bucket hats before entry to the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.

The FAW said it contacted Fifa following the incidents at the USA game.

In a statement released on social media on Thursday - ahead of Wales' game against Iran on Friday (10:00 GMT) - the Welsh association said: "In response to the FAW, Fifa has confirmed that fans with Rainbow Wall bucket hats and rainbow flags will be allowed entry to the stadium for Cymru's match against Iran on Friday.

Goalkeeper Neuer and several other European team captains plan to wear a multicoloured One Love armband at the tournament to support diversity. It is still unclear whether football governing body Fifa will issue fines for the action.

Neuendorf said the action stands “against racism, against anti-Semitism, for women’s rights and human rights in general.”

Since it was awarded the right to host a World Cup, Qatar has been widely criticised due to the human rights conditions in the country and its handling of the le***an, gay, bis*xual, trans and q***r (LGBT) community.
Neuendorf did not rule out further actions from the German players during the tournament.
On the pitch, he is “firmly convinced” Germany can win their opening match against Japan on November 23. “We have the best prerequisites,” he said.
