Drucilla is an Organisation that deals with the vulnerable community members directly at the village level. It’s a company limited by guarantee &was founded on 21.03.1991 by the Diocese of Kigezi in south western Uganda. The Company implements a series of Programs which among others include:
-Community Managed Microfinance (CMMF), Education and Handcrafts,a program meant to empower women especial
ly those poor but active from poverty stricken families,to raise their standards of living. With this Community Managed Microfinance(CMMF)model consits of self-selected groups of 20-30 low income earners, organized to save and contribute to a common fund. As their buisnesses grow and their capital needs increase, the groups are linked to formal financial instutions so they can access bigger loans. Beyond this saving and lending, the model embeds other social aspects such as food security, non-formal vocational raining, entrepreneurship, clustering, Linkage as well as life skills training in various issues beyond saving and credit. Youth /Adolescent training :
Drucilla thru:it’s Vocational training Institute implements both Institutionalized &Community based skills Training. It has recently founded a Partnership with the European Commission thru:a Co-Partnership with CEFE Macedonia as a Lead Partner. The Implementation of this Is made Possible thru. It’s “Global Exchange &Training for Youth Employment Services2.(GETYES2)
With this GETYES2,it recognizes the fact that adolescent girls,boys and adult women need self reliance through income generating skills. To achieve this,Drucilla offers different training courses which include: Knitting, Tailoring and Design, Crocheting, Art-crafts, Handcrafts, Cookery, Home manegment and Basic computer application,Creative design among others . The school also does agriculture on the rest of the land. Yields from the school Garden are used to supplement the Students ´ diet &also as inputs/raw material for cookery lessons. Early Childhood Development Centers:
Early childhood development centers focuses on children mainly from 3 years of age. Early childhood development provides a strong foundation in the life of children and prepares them for transition into primary education. This is integrated with Economic empowerment of parents/guardians. Community Vocaional Training Centers:
Through the community based vocational skills training program, Drucilla aims at helping disavantage youth to attain vocational as well as life skills.
