.org is an incredible company which helps small businesses raise money from community support with a guaranteed 100% payback to supporters over a few years. These loans start with a focus on local supporters to demonstrate investment by the community where the business / artisan is located. We are at 15% of our loan goal now with 15 backers. We have 11 more days in our private funding to hit 25 backers so we can move forward. Once backed by enough local supporters, the loan opens to supporters from all over, so the goal can be met. My name is Stephen and I am a clothing designer in Southwest VA. Originally from Saint Louis, MO, I grew up in a family of 6 and our house was always extremely lively. Growing up in the Midwest, I had little exposure to fashion but I had big dreams from a young age to contribute to it and live in that world. My earliest memories are of

me spending summers with my grandparents and learning how to sew with my grandmother. Something just made sense when I was working on a

pattern or helping my grandmother cut out the fabric. Little did I know that after a couple of years in a pre-med program I would have a change of heart. In 2006 I decided to chase my dream and changed my major to Fashion Design. I graduated from Lindenwood University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in menswear. After graduating, I moved to Chicago to experience a competitive fashion market but also to learn and grow as a new designer.

In 2014, I moved to Southwest VA to begin a new life. I launched Lavelle Manufacturing, a custom clothing company. We have grown so much since we opened our first brick n mortar. Over this past winter, we relocated to a new space and officially opened our doors on April 9, 2022, with the full idea of teaching sewing, hand-dying, leatherworking, and many more trades. We have put on fashion shows and catered events that have brought people in from all over surrounding areas, built up clients, and inspired others to sew and learn. This loan will help me to be able to hire a couple of people, teach classes on sewing and offer jobs in the area.
